why do black people name their kids ridiculous names?

I have a friend who used to be a teacher in the Edgewood ISD. She had a student with the name of Sardonyx Pink and her sister was Sapphire Blue! Their little brother was Apollo and the mother was pregnant (this was years ago) and if the baby was a girl she wanted to name it Bosnia!!

I tossed around the idea of naming my daughter Wrigley (for Wrigley field), but ultimately settled on using that as a pet name instead.

I think a lot of kids could have been saved horrible names if their parents had just not procreated and gotten a new pet instead. So many names now strike me either as pet names, or names that should be nicknames, not real ones. For instance, "Apple" would have been a cute nickname to be shared among friends and family, but no, she's going to have to put that on a resume some day. At least that kid will probably never have to work if she doesn't want to with all of the money in the family, but I feel bad for some kids that just don't stand a chance later in life.

My niece is expecting her first child and she just found out it's a boy. Well - my father's name is Dorian and he's always hated the name. BUT - his mother originally wanted to name him Peter - and we've always teased him about it.

So, my niece called my dad and told him the baby was a boy and she was going to name him Peter . My dad got a good laugh out of it!

I know a guy named Viet, named so because he was conceived while his parents vacationed in Vietnam.

I had a friend in elementary school named Viet, and he had a brother named Nam. He was actually from Vietnam though

It's the stock name I use for the biggest of the big boned black girls, as in "Holy , did you see that Shabunda that waddled through the door?"

I put myself through college working as a pharmacy tech in a hospital. We had a notebook where we printed out extra copies of labels when we got a really funny name. My favorites were always the ones where people would use the same name twice, just in a different language. I guess they were either too stupid to realize that little "LaMonica Monique" Jones was really "La Monica Monica" Jones.
