Mike Monroe's NBA power rankings: Jan. 11, 2009

    TOP 10

    (Last week’s rank in parentheses)

    1. Cavaliers (3): Crab dribbler LeBron proved he’s better than any of those Boston lobsters.

    2. Lakers (1): Vulnerability revealed. With Farmar out, 34-year-old Derek Fisher is playing way too much.

    3. Magic (4): Superman needs a sidekick. Howard lobbying hard for Jameer Nelson’s inclusion on East All-Star roster.

    4. SPURS (6): What a week for Bonner. National championship for Gators, top spot among 3-ball gunners.

    5. Hornets (5): They’re indignant CP3 is third in All-Star guard vote, but West isn’t even in top 10. What’s up with that?

    6. Rockets (9): So they beat the Celtics in Boston. Big deal. Everybody beats the Celtics these days.

    7. Pistons (8): You don’t think A.I. was tired of hearing how Nuggets got best of that trade, do you? Nah, didn’t think so.

    8. Celtics (2): Bobcats rookie D. J. Augustin sums it up: “They try to punk you, but if you don’t back down, they kind of fold.”

    9. Nuggets (7): They face critical portion of schedule minus ’Melo. Three tough road games, then long road trip.

    10. Suns (12): Tempo was torrid again in Friday win. Was D’Antoni back on the bench?Ñ

I wonder if we will move ahead of Orlando if we win tomorrow. Not that a top 10 list really matters.

2nd video was a clear travel but he's the golden boy so what you gonna do?
He can crab dribble all he wants when the Spurs sweep his travelling ass in the Finals.

After getting their ass kicked by 30 last night? A win is a win but i've seen some of those Mavs games and if there not barely beating the Clipps or the 6ers they're getting beat by 20 or 30 points by the Grizz and Nets. I'm shocked their even 11th in his list.

Meanwhile, the Celtics have lost 4 straight, and 7 of their last 9. They've lost to 4 winning teams and 3 losing teams in that stretch, while beating 2 losing teams. They're in an awful slide and shouldn't be anywhere near the Top 10.

The Mavs are playing decent, not great, but not horrible either. The Suns played flawlessly last night and took advantage of a fatigued, listless Mavs squad.

The Mavs should be higher than the Celtics.

Well i'm not really making a case for which team is better. I'm just saying that you can go either way. Atleast the Celtics have lost to contenders. The Mavs have lost to contenders and lottery teams. Neither is playing good ball right now.

The Bobcats, Knicks and Warriors have all won against this Boston team within the recent slide. I would hardly call them 'contenders'. The Mavs have played some pretty fine ball as of late, save the last massacre. But those are bound to happen once in a while.

Orlando got us on a back to back. Big deal.

Tonight we bust out the kryptonite.
