Dampire is the best available 7-footer for the spurs, spurs can easily get him together with Stackhouse after they send TD to Dallas.
Spurs are too old to wait one more season to rebuild, but TD is still able to do something and get another ring to exceed Shaq in number. TD knows he can't win one more championship with his spurs so it's a better choice for him to join us, and he's likely to request his current team to trade him to dallas.
Spurs have currently 4 bigmen (Duncan, Bonner, Thomas and Oberto) and there is no way they enter in the playoffs with that few bigmen.
It seems to me a given that Spurs need to have and will have a 5th PF/C for the playoffs.
This 5th bigman could be Mahinmi if he is healthy again, plays some NBA minutes and doesn't badly suck. If it isn't the case, I fully expect Spurs to get an additional frontcourt player around the trade deadline via FA or via a little trade.
I'd send Ime, Jacque, and Fab to Memphis for Darko Milicic.
damp? dirk is being offered. why settle for damp? and spurs bring talent in not out.![]()
i believe David Harrison is in china
I hear he and bonner are pals
it's starting to look like we'll just be waiting for Ian, and I don't know what to think about that..it's a big risk to take, and we have no idea if it'll be worth it until he actually plays..
some of the bigs that have been mentioned in this thread are unrealistic..the Wizards aren't going to trade us Javale McGeee for anything we'd actually offer..Channing Frye? he doesn't help us at all..he's soft as , which is the complaint I've been seeing about Bonner..also, Bonner is just a better player in general..
there really isn't somebody of that size that we can get for anything we'd realistically offer..Ian is the best option, like OV said..
some options..
Theo Ratliff is an option..he's bigger than Kurt, and he's still a very good shot blocker, which is what we lack up front..the positive about Ratliff is that he's big and physical, which would help us against the Lakers and Hornets..those are the only 2 teams that I'm concernd about when it comes to our interior D, since they have Bynum and Chandler for lobs and rebounding..Kurt is a better player than Ratliff, so this acquisition would be strictly for bigger size, better athletic ability/shot blocking..he would only be needed for 10-15 minutes a game..I'm not really asking for this though, just throwing out names..
Sean Williams is an option..more of a long-term option though..he's a great athlete, but he can't handle stronger players at all..while he's a good shot blocker, he isn't a good defensive player inside..he finishes strong at the rim though, which would obviously help us..I wouldn't mind acquiring him without giving up too much..
Stromile Swift is another guy..he's the same as Williams, except stronger and has more experience in the NBA..
Dan Gadzuric from the Bucks would be a good option..he's a good shot blocker and rebounded, good length, 6-11, finishes at the rim..
there are a few options from the D-league of course..
if Ian can play soon, I'd rather stick with him..he knows the system, he's a draft pick/project, the players are familar with him..

Was my suggestion... He's probably the best big that we could get, and even that, as discussed would have us jumping through a LOT of hoops. Still, if we offered a 2 year contract at the LLE, and played games with the salary payments (ie. set it up as a lump sum payment at the end of each season), He'd get paid roughly 3.8 $Million for 1 and a bit seasons, which ought to be enough to interest him (and would only have to invest 1 Euro season in trying the NBA; he'd complete this Euro season, and miss the next one, after which he could make a decision between the NBA and the Euro leagues). He'd have to put off his summer vacation this year a bit, but that's the NBA. That would not put us over cap this year (according to Bruno, we have roughly 2.5 Million in room left, http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/show...&postcount=109 ). It would give us Javtokas for the remainder of this season, and for the next. Javtokas would be an FA in summer of 2010, in line with the Spurs apparent rebuilding plan at that point, and the Spurs would have his early bird rights (having had him on the books at the end of 2 consecutive seasons)...
I'm not familar with him, but I don't think we would ever sign somebody in April so they can play in the playoffs..
Joe Smith
Theo Ratliff
seem to be the most likely right now. Unless the Spurs find a team that wants Vaughn and Udoka in exchange for a big quality 7 footer.....![]()
Sean Marks. Trade Ginobili for him straight up.
Best 7 footer? A rare commodity these days. Most are already in the NBA and playing. Loren Woods? lol
1) He's one of our draft picks whom we stashed in Europe, there have been threads about him before... ( http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/sear...archid=1130377 will get you started )
2) We certainly have signed players at the last minute, for example, Glenn Robinson. It would be my preference to bring him over earlier - but we would have to reach some sort of buyout with Dynamo Moscow, as he is under contract with them to the end of this ( Russian league) season. The spurs could contribute up to $500K to the buyout without it counting against salary cap... but we would have to negotiate with Dynamo, and there are no guarantees that they would be willing to let him go early.
Rasho Nesterovic
I still think Tolliver is in the mix as some sort of backup plan. If Mahinmi fails and the Spurs don't land someone like Joe Smith, I could see the Spurs going with Tolliver since he knows the system.
Hopefully Pop isn't just going to ride out with the thought that Udoka is the fifth big.
we need to bring the legendary Dwayne Schintzius out of retirement!! He is the true spurs savior..
Jerome James, who's currently just hanging out and sitting on the bench for the Knicks.
Not that we need anyone. Kurt Thomas and Oberto will be in shape and ready to go by the playoffs.
as always Spurs will play a 3 men front court rotation in the PO, with a 4th big getting occasional minutes. it won't be a matter of depth, it will be a matter of quality at the #2 and #3 spot in the rotation.
getting another of those 10 MPG guys, like many of the mentioned are, doesn't help us at all.
Ratliff, Gadzuric, Swift etc. forget it. all this guys would take the #4 spot in the rotation at best. we need a big man, who is good enough for 25-30 PO minutes, which means he has to play mostly alongside Tim and who brings at least one ability that is significantly better than what our guys can offer. no matter if this is on offense or defense.
the bar are IMO typical role players like Haslem, Foster, maybe also Collison. (can't tell if they are available, some were mentioned in some trade rumors).
Joe Smith is a bit borderline. I don't think that at this point he is that much better than Matt, but he might be a nice fit alongside Tim, so I think he could help a bit.
I can't tell what will go on in Portland, but maybe Przybilla is available for the right price. if the Blazers try to get back in position for the 2009 free agency, they might be willing to sacrifice him for expiring contracts and a teaser (Splitter rights?). yes, he's limited, but he does some things far above average (rebound and block) and there was a reason why the Spurs wanted him in 2006. he also does set many and quite good screens, that's something that shouldn't be undervalued in an offense with Tony and Manu, who know how to capitalize on this. he might help us more than some of the better known names out there. (this doesn't mean that I would take him over Camby, if there was a realistic chance to get him)
Thanks for saying it first. If you really are talking about dealing with the teams in the West right now- Rasho actually would be a good choice, and he has an expiring contract. He has played well against the Lakers, especially Bynum, and did a really nice job on Amare last game against the Suns when Shaq was out. He can guard Yao and Shaq, and he already knows the system.
Joe Smith
Theo Ratliff
Miki Moore
Josh Boone
Hakeem Warrick
Etan Thomas (before he was injured)
I know they aren't all 7 footers but I think they would all help improve the rotation and give quality minutes...
The best 7-footer that could be available is Camby. He'll fit perfect on the Spurs system. However, his salary (8 mil.) makes it impossible.
Camby makes 10 millions, plus a 1.25 millions performance bonus (I don't know how this counts against the cap). the only way to get him would be to package Fab, KT and JV, which isn't very attractive for the Clippers, neither capwise nor regarding talent. a small chance would be a van Horn scenario with Horry and cash to cover some of this salary. but would I do it if I was the Clippers GM? no, because I will have 5 better offers on the table, if I put Camby on the market.
anyone that can dunk
