System Restore?

A week ago I deleted a bunch of junk on my hard drive, and now I am realizing I need some of that back.

However Windows Restore says it will not change or delete any do ents.

Is there any way to retrieve my old do ents?

restore as in initial setup or restore from a restore point saved on your drive? if you are restoring(reinstalling the os) from the initial setup then yes you can leave the file system in tact and all files will remain on the drive and all os files will be overwritten. if you restore from restore point saved on your drive then yes i think you can back track to the last save and restore any file from there.

other solutions would probably require 3rd party software to be installed prior to your problem. restoring from the initial setup will not however bring those deleted files back from the dead.

I tried Windows System Restore and it did not retrieve any of my do ents I had deleted. Like I said it states that on the menu of the restore point on windows.

So I'm trying to find out how to undo what I deleted.

when's the last time you made a restore point?

ps: i've never messed with the whole restore option in winOS. i have done so with acronis software(3rd party) but not with micro 's restore. plus i use a mac & linus anyhow so no further need for the bs. get a mac bro. use linux if you don't want a mac. anything is better then windows.

Windows automatically creates restore points every time Windows Live Update... updates haha. So I can go back to pretty much any day I want. I tried going back but still no luck.

This may be too simple of an answer, and you've probably checked .... but

Did you empty your recycle bin? If not, you should be able to restore any do ents you deleted. Right click your recycle bin and click 'explore'. Hopefully you'll see you missing items there.

Well I used that Disk Unerase program and found my files but when I went to recover it redirects me to the website to purchase the program. So it won't let me.

There has to be a free prog out there. Blehhhhh sighhhhh

Yep that was the first thing I did haha, I always empty it though so no luck.

Pay for a good undelete program now. Every time you do anything on your computer you lessen the chances of recovering your deleted files. When you delete a file all it does is removes the first character from the filename, but leaves it on the hard drive. If something else overwrites that spot on the hard drive, the file can't be recovered.

I don't know how much you're going to get back after a week of computer use on a system with only one par ion. The reason you can recover files is that they're never deleted from a hard drive. If you delete the file, all it does is tell the operating system that part of the disk is free to write to again; after a week though, you gotta think some of that is going to be overwritten.

My only advice is to figure out how to do the data recovery ASAP. I wish I could help more, but I cannot for the life of me remember the program I used to to recover some grade-A porno I deleted to make room for spurs games on the HD (problem solved when I just decided to buy another hard drive instead). The longer you put off doing the recovery, the more data you'll lose as its contents are overwritten by new things. Perhaps when searching for data recovery programs, look for open source. I'm pretty sure what I used was open source, but I haven't been able to find it again.

Moral of the story: don't delete your porn again. Even though it was on a different par ion that I didn't write a lot to, still maybe 1/8 of the files were damaged after being "deleted" for only a couple of days. Your files are going to be fragmented into a lot of different places if your hard drive is anywhere close to being at capacity.
