i don't it works that way. for the pick to be returned, the spurs have to miss the playoffs or have a worse record than the 8th seed of the east (if they make the playoffs). oklahoma's record doesn't affect the deal in anyway.

The minimum number of wins to even have a shot at the western playoffs this year is ~48. The Thunder have won 8 so far and have 41 games left this season. The chances of their going 40-1 the rest of the way are actually better than the chances of all the teams above them losing enough collective games to give them a realistic shot at the playoffs. IOW, don't worry about it.

Spurs send their pick (top 15 protected) in the Kurt Thomas trade.

Thunder can be the worst or the best team in the league, it has no importance.

What is important to know if Spurs send their pick is what Spurs do.
If Spurs pick is in the 1-15 area, they won't this year pick but a future pick.
If Spurs pick is in the 16-30 area, they will send their pick to Thunder this year and Spurs won't have a first round pick this year.

My understanding is we should root for the Spurs to lose the pick this year because the draft sucks and we don't want to lock up the roster with any contracts anyway.
