(By comparison, George W. Bush's 2005 inauguration cost $42.3 million. Bill Clinton managed with $33 million in 1993.)

(By comparison, George W. Bush was given a hard time for the $42.3 million cost of his inauguration .... but that number, as Media Matters points out, did not include security.)

I'm not going to argue the number isn't significant, because it is. I'm going to argue Ducks' cherry-picking, illiterate, whiny ass.

    what a waste of money
I think it is ridiculous the amount of money spent on inauguration- all the more given the current economic climate of our country.

I feel like all effort should be made to keep cost at an absolute minimum.
Being president is about best serving the country, not personal accolades- not that all the expense is caused by that.

They should. It would be a much more beneficial investment.

He'd just waste it by rendering it all back to Caesar.

First, if you'd bothered to read the article, you'd know most of this money is going to security. Not Obama's, the crowd's. But you're right, maybe they should just say it. Secondly, most of this cash was raised by donations to Obama's Inauguration Committee, not from taxes. And last time I checked, people are free to spend their money however the they choose. And third, if you want to talk about economics, do you have any idea how much tax revenue this is going to generate for DC? Obviously not, but more than enough to cover any expenditures on their part.

He'd only give Caesar what was owed in taxes, just as He did in the Biblical account you are referencing.

Granted with taxes these days, it would be a hefty sum.

Couldn't they make the whole thing less of a spectacle?
If it was not such a public drawn out affair, wouldn't it cost less for crowd security?

Are you suggesting this is all just one big money making scheme?

People can spend money how they please, you are correct. But that does not mean that I have to approve of it or pretend that I do.

    It's not a spectacle. It's a ing presidential inauguration.

If it was not such a public drawn out affair, wouldn't it cost less for crowd security?
You're right. I mean the 43 other presidents got a big party, but what 250 years of tradition? I mean he is the ing anti-christ after all, right?

Are you suggesting this is all just one big money making scheme?
No. I'm saying it's a large public event that like any large public event, will generate tax revenue for the city that is hosting it.

People can spend money how they please, you are correct. But that does not mean that I have to approve of it or pretend that I do.
Apparently you're the only person in America these days who hasn't figured out spending is a good thing based on where were at economically. And you're right, you don't have to approve, or pretend to... but I find it funny you'd go out of your way to specifically disapprove. Other people's wallets are none of your ing business.

You find it odd that I would make my opinion known on a public forum? Really?

My opinion on inaugurations, since I have been old enough to have one, is that they are overblown and way over priced.
President Clinton, President Bush, President Obama, the next President- it is not personal, just a general principle.

I also feel that an enormous amount of resources are wasted on campaigning. That again goes for every candidate.

That is my opinion and I am not at all ashamed of it. Nor will anything you say make me ashamed.

If you sincerely had wished to educate me then you could have made your post minus the obscenities and insults.

You find it odd that I would make my opinion known on a public forum? Really?
Nope. I find it odd that your opinion would be: I disagree with how other people, as American citizens, choose to spend their money and their time in the name of a positive cause.

Look, whether you agree or not that in actuality the past 8 years have been a horrible nightmare, you have to at least agree it's been horrible for a sizable portion of the population. 50% of us have been through . We've been looking forward to this more than ANYTHING ELSE in our lives. And if we, as American citizens, want to donate our hard earned money, or fly out to DC, or take in an HBO concert- we damn sure have a right to do so. And while you have a 100% right not to do so, I just yeah, find it very funny that you'd sit back and get all bent at the people who are choosing to have a good time.

And if that costs DC a lot in terms of security? Tough. This is America. Post 9/11. And we protect our own here. If you don't like it move somewhere else. (Never minding the earlier argument about how much DC stands to gain back in tax revenue)

And if you want to have a larger argument about the cost of campaigns, inaugurations, etc... That's fine, I'd probably agree, but it's really a moot debate. This is the system we got and while in general I think we'd all like to see less money driving politics, ain't nobody doing a damn thing about it and I fail to see why Obama's inauguration, as opposed to any other donation based political event, should become a scapegoat in your mind.

Plus, I find it kind of hard to believe that you were politically aware or independent enough to be sitting around bad mouthing the cost of the Bush inaugurations.

My opinion on inaugurations, since I have been old enough to have one...
    President angel luv? Scary.
