It seems that the madness of Panagiotis and George Angelopoulos has no seasons. The summer "froze" Europe and the U.S. with the acquisition of Josh Childress and now in winter they want to add fire and heat with Stephon Marbury.
The two administrative leaders are aiming at the Olympic ace and former star of the New York Knicks, which is at a variance over a contract buyout with the team of New York and is on the inactive list. With a $21.9 million contract, the Marbury goal seems unattainable, especially this year, but the Angelopoulos brothers are examining the issue.
With 19.9 points per game in a 12 year career in the NBA, Marbury is considered one of the most charismatic guards of the NBA of recent years, but the question is how does he work as a temporary solution to replace the injured Josh Childress (who will be out for the next 40 days), a player with a known NBA name and experience already playing in the Greek League and Euroleague.
The truth however is that Panagiotis Angelopoulos wants to fill the gap of Childress (in performance and name) with the best player possible, but Olympiacos has only until Tuesday to declare any roster changes in the Euroleague, so Marbury would not be able to play with them in the Euroleague in any games after they signed him. Unless the brothers want Marbury only to play in games of the Greek HEBA A1 Championship.
The names of Bracey Wright and DeJuan Collins have passed in second place on their players list. Both are major players with experience in the Euroleague, which is what Olympiacos needs in this case. However, the Angelopoulos brothers always look at the best players in the available players list and in their hands are names of players from Europe and the NBA and Marbury is the top name.
The team of Olympiacos BC is in Thessaloniki for the game against Aris BC and of course the discussions around the issue of Marbury are give and take, although everyone knows that the situation is difficult. The Angelopoulos brothers are in contact with Olympiacos head coach Panagiotis Giannakis, that either the American guard formerly of the Knicks, or someone else to make the necessary moves will be signed, so the club will not lose one more day without the new player.
Starbury was selected with the number 4 draft pick by the Milwaukee Bucks, but he was quickly traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Ray Allen. He played with the Wolves in the NBA playoffs before he was with the Phoenix Suns. He played in the Eastern Conference with the New Jersey Nets, while in recent years he played with the New York Knicks.
It should be noted that Greece already had a taste of the capabilities of Marbury when he played in Athens as an adolescent at the 1995 FIBA Under-19 World Championship and in 2004 at the Athens Summer Olympics, where he won a bronze medal with Team USA.

It was report in several papers. If he sign with team in Europe he can make as much as he wants and will not affect his NBA buyout. If he signs with NBA team than however much he make can lower his buyout.
This is what was report. Olympiacos would be willing give €15 million net which would mean he would make more than he is for this year from Knicks. Olympiacos owners is idiots if they go through with this offer. No thing said if he will take it but probably I think he would. Would any NBA teams give him this much?
Olympiacos owners never learn. Childress is big bust for them and is not worth 1/3 of his salary so far and now they think of Marbury for almost as much money?

No. Anyone would know Olympiacos owners is idiots with contract they give Childress. 5.1 million euros net is what he is make per year and players in Europe making 1/5 this amount are as good as him.
Now they want Marbury for almost as much? They are fools. Childress is at least very nice guy, humble, good team player, hard worker, smart guy and tries in defense. Marbury is much more talent player than Childress and obvious much more skill offensive player than Childress but he is known as guy that destroys teams and as big cancer.
Greek clubs can only have 2 Americans in roster so I guess this means Olympiacos would also spend money to buy Lynn Greer a Euro passport. They are crazy if they are willing to throw away such money on these types of players.
Just think 15 millions offer for Marbury and 20 millions contract for Childress. Would be 35 million net (like $70 million in NBA) that could be offer to player like Kobe that they would just throw away.
Childress is not even best player at his own position on his team and Marbury would probably be even worse signing for such money.

Those players on his own team are better than him and even Pelekanos is very debatable. Pelekanos is probably even better but because of contract of Childress he doesn't get to play.
Childress is probably better than Olympiacos players like Lynn Greer, Big Sofo, Giorgos Printezis, Nikola Vujicic, Yotam Halperin but he is nothing as NBA fans claim he would be and would "dominate".
A player like Marbury in his condition and age will certainly not make any big impact now in Euroleague or even against a team like PAO in Greece.

We saw Marbury in Greece in 1995 (he was 18 at the time) when he played with the US National team in the U19 FIBA World Championship. He hadn't started doping yet, so he was just the most talented American player of that team (scoring less than 20 points p.g. against other youngsters), but his athletic abilities were nowhere near what they are today. (His team finished 5th, losing by 20something points to the Greek team btw).
Playing more than 10 years the American way of Basketball, I don't think that he is smart enough to adjust to the European Basketball, with all the strategies, tactics and techniques in just 6 months. He may be able to offer 15 points and 4 assists with his athletic abilities and talent, but nothing more than that.
I don't know if you refer to the Basketball history of Greece. Then you are probably right. If you refer to the history of Greece in general, then allow me to tell you that you need to have those history lessons in first degree passed again.
If you want to look for NBA players that would certainly make a difference in European Basketball then look for players such as John Stockton

I was actually googling trying to find any american article/info on the supposed move of Marbury to Olympiacos but all I found were refers to the greek media which are obviously making stories out of their minds...
For those who say Childress is not a good enough player for the money he gets they just don't know the european reality. The budget of the team is around 35m euros and Josh gets sth around 5m. Childress has been playing on a regural basis for the team and he did not come here to become a hiscorer or sth like this(he actually never was).
And KBP is obviously in his own planet comparing players playing in different positions.

Olympiakos' swingman Josh Childress (203-G/F-83, college: Stanford) had surgery yesterday morning in Philadelphia to repair a tear in his abdomen, although firstly been reported as a hernia, and after that spoke to Lang Whitaker of slamonline.com.
'They had to put s ches inside, and then it's just a matter of waiting for it to heal, Josh Childress said. It started bothering me like a month ago, but after the game against Maccabi on the 8th of January, I could barely walk. It was killing me. Everybody diagnosed it as a hernia, but the specialist I saw in Philadelphia said it was just a tear. Actually, I'm kind of unclear, because the team doctor said he thought it was a hernia, and he was here at the surgery as well'.
Josh Childress had the surgery in the U.S. because he had a clause in his contract that allowed him to come to the U.S. and see a doctor if he suffered any serious injury. He went to a specialist in Philadelphia the same guy who treated Shaquille O'Neal's strained abdominal muscle. While initial reports projected that Josh Childress would miss between 6-8 weeks, Josh and his medical team think the time frame could be shorter: 'The doctor said he thinks we can push the envelope on the recovery and I could be back in 3-4 weeks. He actually wants me to walk a mile tomorrow to start trying to get better' the American player said.
Instead of returning to Athens immediately, Josh Childress will head to his home in California to rehabilitate. 'Olympiakos was great about it; I expected them to be like, hurry back. But the owner of the team told me that they want to make sure I would be taken care of and do whatever is best for me. It didn't matter them where I do the rehab as long as I get better. As they told me they have me for another two years, and they want to make sure I am happy. So that was pretty cool' Josh Childress stated.
Now, the Reds are searching for a subs ute for their big star, either for the interval that Josh Childress will be out of the fields or for even more; names like Bracey Wright (191-G-84, college: Indiana) and DeJuan Collins (188-G-76, college: Tuskegee) are heard to have been proposed to the Reds, having already a past experience in Greece. What impresses, though, more is the possibility of Stephon Marbury (187-G-77, college: Georgia Tech), whose name is at the front page of all the Greek sites this morning. Angelopoulos brothers, the owners of Olympiacos, are in a search for another star. The club lost Josh Childress for 40 days due to a health problems. Stephon Marbury was mentioned by the Greek media as the club's main target. 31-year-old veteran is on the inactive list at New York Knicks.
