Remember back when Bynum was in high school and had that MySpace page where he said he was bi-curious? Shame he took it down during his NBA workouts for the draft.
    so what ?

i still would prefer to have this "bi curious" kid and his terrific game in our team than the real man, kurt thomas and his domestic violence issues, and his weak game.

    Bynum over Duncan? No joke
    By Gregg Patton

LOS ANGELES - Andrew Bynum or Tim Duncan?

If the question were once a laughable premise, no more. The gap has seriously narrowed between the Lakers' emerging young monster and San Antonio's superstar since, oh, around the time of the Alamo. As if there wasn't enough bad news coming out of LA lately for the Spurs -- and, for that matter, the rest of the Western Conference.

Just check the box score of the Lakers' easy 99-85 victory over San Antonio on Sunday at Staples Center.

Bynum, 21 and just getting started, essentially played Duncan, 32 and a two-time Most Valuable Player, to a draw. Afterward the Lakers' youngest player shrugged it off with a casual nonchalance that used to be a defense mechanism.

    Now it's just casual nonchalance.

"That's the way I'm supposed to play," Bynum said after scoring 15 points (7 of 8 from the foul line), grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds and blocking four shots in just 24 minutes.

"If you put the work in, that's what's supposed to happen. That's why the Lakers drafted me and that's why they pay me."

Duncan played three minutes more than Bynum in the Spurs' mostly uninspired performance. Or maybe the Lakers just methodically squeezed the life out of them.

Duncan scored 15 points and had eight rebounds and, like Bynum, didn't play the fourth quarter. He answered questions about Bynum after the game, but wasn't exactly in a gushy mood.

"He's a big body," Duncan said. "He used it to get to the free throw line. He got some fouls on our bigs."

He also was able to play Duncan effectively one-on-one, preventing the Spurs from getting a lot of open shots on the perimeter.

He also drew enough attention when he got the ball on the low post to kick-start the Lakers' inside-out game.

Lakers coach Phil Jackson said Bynum is "learning to be a pro. He's learning how to work hard and improve. Sometimes young players take that as an insult. But he knows the job has to be done and if it's not done, we have to go in another direction."

The signs are there. Over the past three games, Bynum has scored 42, 23 and 15 points. He has 15, 14 and 11 rebounds, along with three, one and four blocked shots.

If that's the way he's going to be most of the time, the Lakers have separated themselves from the West also-rans even more than the records would suggest. With the Lakers at 35-8, second-place San Antonio at 29-14, and the second half of the season under way, it's simply about Kobe Bryant and Co. staying interested enough to challenge Eastern Conference powers Cleveland, Boston and Orlando for the best overall record.

The Lakers will play 24 of their final 39 games away from home, but the road shouldn't bother them. They are 12-5 so far, and four of those losses were by a total of seven points.

For the rest of the NBA, the Lakers are scary like the economy. Teams can figure it will get worse before it gets better. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich unsmilingly critiqued the Lakers afterward.

"They're young, athletic, long, deep -- they've got an inside game, an outside game, and they're going to be a (heck) of a team for a long time to come," Popovich said before retreating to his office, which Sunday doubled as a bunker against unpleasant reality.

The Lakers are good, and with Bynum rising, getting even better.
Why hasnt Allanon told us hes a writer.

Seriously though, if this dude is gonna make a debate over who is better after they had even outings in a regular season game, then im lost for words - honestly.

Bynum deserves alot of praise for developing and getting better - but to call him Duncan's equal is beyond a joke.

Didnt Bowen outscore Kobe in a regular season game about a year ago?

Who does this guy work for?

    Damn

Its an unfair advantage. No wonder Tim was shooting jumpers most of the game.

Bynum shows he can be Duncan 'on steroids'
Kevin Ding: His personal trainer says Andrew Bynum "can be Tim Duncan on steroids," and the Lakers' victory over San Antonio on Sunday helped make that case.

LOS ANGELES How much better are the Lakers than the Spurs?

    This much.

The Lakers' dominance of San Antonio on Sunday was no one-day "Lost"-style time-travel trick. Andrew Bynum, 21, can play his childhood idol, Tim Duncan, 32, to a standstill now, and given that's the case, the Spurs have no chance of unseating the Lakers as Western Conference champions this season.

Not that anyone else in the West is going to beat the Lakers, either.

Lakers co-captains Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher showed proper respect for San Antonio as an ongoing threat, even though a proper burial would have been more appropriate after Sunday's 99-84 Lakers victory. Bryant noted San Antonio's "great players and great coaching and class organization." He also said: "They've always been a measuring stick."

The tale of the tape now tells a different story. On Sunday, Bynum looked every bit 25 pounds bigger and stronger than Duncan, after whom he has modeled much of his game.

It has taken a little time and experience for the words of Bynum's personal trainer, Sean Zarzana, to take hold: "You can be Duncan … on steroids."

Obviously not real steroids, but you can see a slight shift in the Lakers' flow toward Bynum's muscle flexing at both ends recently.

The shift makes the game incredibly easy for the Lakers, because if Bynum merits double-teaming, it becomes clear the Lakers' supporting cast can run circles around San Antonio's.

The Spurs won the NBA le in 2003, '05 and '07, but the odd trend is going to end this season, even though they're respectably second in the West, six games behind the Lakers.

Duncan looks a lot like the overburdened Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal of 2003, when the Lakers failed in a fourth consecutive le quest by falling to the Spurs in the second round … with Slava Medvedenko, Jannero Pargo and a soon-to-retire Brian Shaw out there with Bryant and O'Neal down the stretch.

The normal tranquility in Duncan, whose numbers are up to the levels of five years ago because he has to do more now, was replaced by anger in the middle of a third-quarter play Sunday when Matt Bonner (Medvedenko) botched the alignment on an offensive set that ended in a Tony Parker forced and missed jumper.

Moments before, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich was unable to contain his anger after Michael Finley (Shaw) couldn't get free from Bynum's pick to rotate over and defend Fisher's 3-pointer.

On the previous play, Roger Mason (Pargo) doubled down to Bynum and didn't bother to go back to contest Bryant, who made his open 3-pointer.

"The game was over at that point," Popovich said later.

He can't be as honest about San Antonio's season being over, but he did say this about the Lakers: "It's a of a team, and it's going to be a of a team for a long time. They're young, athletic, long and deep. Inside game, outside game. It's a of a squad."

What we saw Sunday was San Antonio at full strength, and it wasn't even as good as San Antonio with a gimpy Manu Ginobili in the Lakers' five-game Western Conference finals victory last spring. Bynum was injured and absent then.

Now, he is healthy and present. And although fighting a head cold Sunday, he showed he can at the very least be Duncan … on nasal decongestants.

Bynum realized at halftime he had no free-throw attempts, so he redoubled his efforts in that department and got to the line eight times, making seven.

The results showed how Bynum has focused personal workouts on exploding to the rim while wearing resistance bands and on free-throw shooting. (He is 22 of 27 from the line in three games since he made 87 of 100 in an extra practice session.) When he starts getting consistent in passing out of double teams, it'll be all over.

Because it was a blowout, neither Bynum (24 minutes) nor Duncan (27) played much, but the other numbers loomed large: Bynum had 15 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks. Duncan had 15 points, eight rebounds and no blocks. Duncan drew his fourth foul with 3:27 left in the third quarter by going over Bynum's back, clearly frustrated that Bynum had blocked his shot on the previous play.

"When he plays that way," Fisher said of Bynum, "it makes us almost impossible to beat."

The thing is Bynum playing that way is no flash-forward to 2011. It is who he is becoming — and who he expects to be — now.

"It's the way I'm supposed to play," Bynum said.

    Dictionary copy/paste bull deleted.
Wow, you can copy/paste text from a dictionary website. GFY man, good for you.

Odd numbered year means the Lakers will lose to Houston or Dallas before getting a shot at the Spurs, but if Kobe finds a way to put that team on his back and drop 55ppg on one of those teams, and they get to play the Spurs in the WCF, Duncan will eat Bynum's lunch.

Worthless January regular season loss. Playoff Timmy is going to kill your team. If the Lakers make it that far.

Bynum has really impressed me, on both ends of the court.

Yes, he is dumb, but he listens to Kareem.

Playoff Timmy couldn't even shoot over 45% against Gasol last series. And Bynum guards Duncan x12393943 more effectively than Gasol ever has. Yeah I'm sure he's going to 'eat Bynum's lunch'

Bynum's looking good, but too much exaggerating here..

outside of the 1st quarter of the 1st game, Duncan completely dominated Bynum and Gasol..there's a pretty big difference in both games..Duncan has a tendency of making himself vulnerable and takes bad shots..as you saw yesterday with his face-up game(which he shouldn't be doing vs. a long, athletic 7 footer) and when he relied on J's..

if this is the case..then Darko>Duncan, Marc Gasol>Duncan, Bogut>Duncan..he had the same problems in all 3 of those games as well..
