Lopsided trades happen in the NBA and in all professional sports. This wasn't the 1st time the Lakers benefited from great timing and other GM's incompetence. Look at how they acquired Kobe Bryant, Kareem, etc. Part of being a good GM is being able to screw over other GM's.

I'm not against the Gasol trade, LA gave up a decent amount..it was definitely a product of bad GMing..but it's obviously questionable for the present..also for the fact that Jerry West was still close with the Grizzlies front office, and for the fact that Kobe had demanded a trade in the off-season..

only time will tell, but what we do know is that every NBA fan -Fakerfans admit that there was something screwy with Game 6 of the 2002 NBA Western Conference Finals.
That trade was bs its equivalent to the spurs being able to trade Matt Bonner for Dirk Nowitzki or Amare Stoudemire. That definitely would change the whole power balance of the league. There is nothing you can do about it it happened just like that timeless phrase it is that it is sums up the phantom trade. To me it doesn't really matter I'm through with the NBA once Duncan retires.
