You wznt me to cheer a guy who wanted out, then wants to stay, then wants out, but is now staying. I am a Laker fan first. I have forgiven Kobe, but I was still pissed at him.

Bobcats' Wallace has collapsed lung, broken rib

    Posted: Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009

LOS ANGELES - Charlotte Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace suffered a collapsed left lung and a broken rib in a collision with Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum in the Bobcats' 117-110 double-overtime victory Tuesday night.

According to the team, Wallace lost 30-40 percent of the capacity in his left lung. He also suffered a non-displaced fracture of the fifth rib on his left side.

Doctors at Centinela Hospital inserted a tube in Wallace's lung to help restore functional capacity. Wallace will spend at least Wednesday night in the hospital. Doctors do not anticipate releasing him before late Thursday. At that time, the Bobcats will be better prepared to decide whether Wallace would join the team on its current West Coast trip or return directly to Charlotte.

Bynum was called for a Flagrant 1 foul on the play in which Wallace was driving the lane in the fourth quarter. Bynum threw a hip-check and struck Wallace's rib cage with his right elbow.

The Bobcats will play the Trail Blazers tonight in Portland. It was unclear who coach Larry Brown would start in Wallace's place.

A non-Laker would get suspended for that. We'll see what happens to Bynum.

If that becomes an acceptable defensive maneuver, hopefully Kurt Thomas takes note the next time a Laker is driving down the lane . . .

the best is Bynum has these dirty fouls like this one last night and the one vs. Cleveland and after he does it he walks around with a sheepish look on his face and walks behind his teammates. I'd love to see someone Kermit Washington his ass to the floor

I thought it should have been a Flagrant 2 when I was watching the game. Then again, the reality distortion field is in full swing at the Staples...

How long do you think will Wallace be off the floor with a collapsed lung and a broken rib? Does a collapsed lung have any permanent longterm effects?

A "collision?" That's an interesting way of putting it.

It was a freak accident how many times have u seen someone put their forearm into someones chest & they have a collapsed lung..Basketball is an aggressive game & bynum didnt want to give up 2 easy points. I doubt he wanted to actually hurt the guy. Bynum is beasting lately though..Keep that up big man & i love that ppl are hating on him now which means that they are seeing the real pre-injury bynum come into effect.
