Do any of you cats have a problem with this?

It made for a decent discussion at work...a few people couldnt believe it and one person, who is getting ready to go work for the city, was pretty upset...I was able to look up a few of my friends' salary and also see how much overtime they made working for SAFD.

Lots of information like this was always public information; it was just harder to find. Now it is just easier to search- like property records, deed recordings, or marriage licenses.

Pretty move by the media doing it by name.

I wouldnt really care if someone saw my salary or not.....we hear about people's salaries all the time

but I just wonder why mysa felt the need to post those salaries. If there's a point, then say it already.

+1 - and the city paid like crap anyways, so I never really cared if my salary information got out.

As long as the city is able to sustain itself, I don't see why we should have a problem with the current number of employees anyways. Do we really want the city laying people off in this environment?

It's also a good tool to see what you may make if you apply for a job with the city. I have an application that was sent off to the community initiatives department a few days ago and seeing all that stuff makes me pretty happy. I'd be making about $5,00 more then I am now.

I pretty much said the same stuff...I really didnt see the big deal other than it being some type of security violation. I mean it kinda sucks that you list how much a person makes and what they do and then list it to the public. I was able to take some of the people listed and find out more information about them. Yes this could have also been done with out the listings but it did make it so much more easier. Especially on a news site. Maybe somewhere on the cities I could see this information but not on MYSA.

And the second thing is that he is a new employee with the city so he looked up what the people he worked with were getting paid and what his bosses were getting paid...and yes to me that can kind of lead to some hostility in the work place. But believe it or not people talk about their salaries more than you think.

Salary information is easily available for anyone that's ever applied for a city job, the link to salary information is on the same page as the link to the job listings ... so I always knew what my bosses made. And seeing as how I got paid , it was really just more incentive to work my way up more than anything.

Librarians I worked with - who are REQUIRED to have a masters degree - get paid about $4000/y less than public school teachers. They shouldn't feel bad about having their salaries displayed, that should serve as a reminder to other people about their commitment to public service.
