People in this forum seem to hate Jacque Vaughn.
I realise that Parker will get the bulk of minutes and that the spurs now have Hill who can play PG.
However, Vaughn brings leadership to the team and I think Pop likes to have three point guards on the roster.

Maybe people are forgetting that Vaughn is the reason that the spurs won some games when Tony was out injured?
Recall that when Tony was out, Hill was showing rookie characteristics and so it was up to Vaughn to carry the PG duties. Vaughn was praised for his efforts and was acknowledged to have helped the spurs get some wins.

Now I'm NOT saying I like Vaughn or that he should stay after this season; I am saying that people should realise that Vaughn has helped the spurs and that there really isn't a reason to hate him.

If Vaughn stays with the spurs after this season, I only want it to be if he has a coaching role

    Who is hating on Vaughn?

Dude is a third-string energy player making the vet min...and I wouldn't be surprised if he was back with the club again next year. The Spurs could do alot worse than him for third-string PG.

given the cir stances, he played pretty decently tonight. In fact, he brought some consistency to the offense at certain points tonight. I agree that he's not going to be the guy we want backing up Tony down the stretch, but he showed he's still a smart player with limited ability tonight.

yeah, he's not a bad 3rd-stringer... but still, I can hardly stand to watch when drives to the basket.

Which is why he never sniffs the court. It's a pretty good indication of his limitations when Pop chooses to go with a rookie PG to backup that has shown as many inconsistencies as he has flashes of brilliance.

BTW, I think Hill's play tonight was subpar. He really needs to get his confidence back and figure out his role in limited minutes.

I only saw bits and pieces of the first 3 qtrs, and all of the 4th, but yeah... I agree with that statement.

I think y'all expect way too much out of a rookie in the Spurs system. D-Rob and Duncan have been the only rookies the Spurs have had in the past 15 years that have exceded rookie expectations. I'm just guessing, but the fact that they're both 7 footers might have had some impact on their success. Hill's defense is progressing much more than his offense, but give him time and he'll continue to improve his offense. I don't know about you, but I've seen some (if small) improvement at his driving to the rim.

Remind me again who he was competing with for the starting spot? How did he do his first season?

Antonio Daniels was the starter PG in 4 games to begin the 2001-2002 season.
The Spurs had 2 wins & 2 losses.
Tony Parker replaced him in the 5th game vs Orlando and the Spurs won 7 games in a row.
He was the youngest starter PG in the history of NBA. He was 19 years 5 months.

    TP as a starter :

    2nd game 8/16 (4/7 3pts) 5ast 22pts http://www.basketball-reference.com/...111080CHH.html
    3rd game 8/14 (3/7 3pts) 8ast 19pts http://www.basketball-reference.com/...111100SAS.html

I love Jacque..if he had talent, he would be a starting PG IMO..he's probably one of the most knowledgeable players in the league..he always makes the right decisions on the court..the lack of talent obviously kills him though..

this guy is going to be a solid coach in this league IMO..

couldnt agree more. hes the perfect back up back up pg. hes got a coachs mentality and seems to really understand the game (even if his talent cant keep up.) g-hill has already said he respects vaughn the most so obviously vaughns had a tutorial impact on him.

And this is why I think Pop likes the dude. He will be a good mentor to Hill. I think he's here to teach this year, and only play sparingly.

I don't hate JV, I just wish he wasn't a Spur most of the time. I guess he only has decent utility in situations where Pop benches our AllStars and our rookie PG struggles. Then and only then is it okay for him to play 15 minutes. Seriously though, JV was decent last night. I'm ok seeing him play once a month. Night and night out though, no thanks. Please no.

And Tony was chosen as starting PG in his rookie year over Terry Porter, not AD.

Marcus E. William's Gatorade call-up to San Antonio is imminent...

Spurs DO have a future: Hill/Hairston/Williams/Gist/Tolliver/Mahinmi/Sanikidze
