F you all. I am in the running for the next trip. Most other companies only send the top dogs on those trips but with Wells people like me actually have a shot at going to that stuff. 8 people from my building alone got to go to the Vegas trip. hey my money went into that bail out too so it's like I have a shot at getting some back. Don't hate!
So what happens when you're not chosen? Will you still be backing this up?

So you think that the bailout is the first time tax payer money was used for stupid stuff. Even at a local level School boards, housing authorities, crap like that it's used to fund nicer cars, hotel stays, expensive dinners, etc.
yeah, and when that happens, the local news station has their 'troubleshooters' run out and make sure nothing is excessive.

Of course, the difference is that W Fargo doesn't really have to explain what they spend the bailout money on.

These trips were budgeted and the money was put aside before any of this bail out stuff. I help budget our stuff on a local level.
then why take the bailout money

did you happen to glance over

"Wells Fargo to pay $371.5 million dividend to U.S. Treasury"
they took $25 billion and gave back just over 1/3 of a billion? Is that the minimum monthly payment or something? Am I supposed to pat them on the back?

wake me when they have it paid off.

Look I am going to defend Wells because I work here. Maybe I'm not like you and I don't have the luxury of saying I don't agree with my company so I will quit and find another job because there are tons out there.

Put the shoe on the other foot and you would work your ass off to win a trip and you can say all the bull you want because it's easy to talk from the outside looking in.

    FTW = For The Wynn
    Nobody's telling you to quit.

Just because you work there and take a bonus vacation on tax payer money doesn't mean you have to agree with the principle of it.

edit: ok, I guess FWDT is telling you to give up the vacation...

Of course. Why wouldn't I. I don't really plan on being picked but if I am I won't deny it.

The bailout was forced upon because of the merger.
The bailout was "forced" on them?

    Let me get this straight......

You're saying that nobody else wanted Wachovia so Well Fargo did the patriotic thing by jumping on the grenade, taking on Wachovia and taking the bailout money?

If you guys don't Wachovia and the $25 billion, can I have it?

Like I said, anyone can bull and say that they would turn down an all expense paid trip to Vegas or Hawaii or anywhere for that matter when they know it will never be offered to them.

Oh look a 20 on the street let me ask everyone I see if it's theirs
I would turn it down. It wouldn't take me very long to do it.

But do keep trying to find justifications for accepting these kinds of "in your face, taxpayers" excesses. After all, those of us on the outside are really just jealous; we couldn't possibly be speaking from a point of conscience or reasonableness.

    I call bullsh!t.

There is no way in I'm turning down a company trip to Vegas.

then why take the bailout money

wake me when they have it paid off.

It was forced upon them. Initially when Wells bought Wachovia they stated that they would take the good loans with the bad loans. Taking the 37 billion dollar loss.
The money isn't really bailing out Wells since Wells didn't need it in the first place.
Sure 300 million might not seem like alot to you but it is a start compared to others who only ask for more instead of paying back.

As for agreeing with the principle of it. It doesn't matter if I do or don't it's where I work. I am one of those just happy to have a job guys that busts his ass to keep it.

Was I posting at work? Yes. I can do multiple things at once. Especially when I am on the phones

Here is the deal. Citi wanted Wachovia but wanted to pick and choose. Others wanted them but again only wanted the good loans and accounts but not the bad. Both groups wanted this and taxpayer money.
Wells stepped in and said we will take it all and didn't ask for "bailout" money. That came later on.

Like picking up a 20 off the ground?

    How does that work?

Do the bailout officers just go around offering bailouts, or are there forms that have to be filled out?

The twenty was for taking the free trip . If I see it then I'm snagging it.

Wells didn't need a bailout. We weren't offered it, it was forced upon us. The whole thing feels like a big setup. I think the media is just looking for someone to attack. I am going to quit and go work with Blake or FWDT since they seem to have their together.

I'm not telling you to quit. Just don't act like the company is acting responsibly on this one.

even if you don't realize it, they do:

WASHINGTON -- Wells Fargo & Co. abruptly canceled Tuesday a pricey Las Vegas casino junket for employees after a torrent of criticism that it was misusing $25 billion in taxpayer bailout money.

The company initially defended the trip after The Associated Press reported it had booked 12 nights beginning Friday at the Wynn Las Vegas and the Encore Las Vegas. But within hours, investigators and lawmakers on Capitol Hill had scorned the bank, and the company canceled......

......The trip was to come on the heels of this week's announcement that Wells Fargo lost more than $2.3 billion in the last three months of 2008.

I still think it's bull though. First you force money that isn't needed then tell you how to use that money THEN say you are unethical for taking a trip that was planned and paid for before the "bailout". It's still bull but I have already decided that I am leaving and going to work with you. Do you think I will have to start with the night shift or can I pick days if I want? I have never worked at Wendy's before.

To be fair, I. Hustle, if I get a loan for a honeymoon package with my wife, then lose my job, the responsible thing would not be to still go on the honeymoon.

Good analogy. I understand your point completely and I agree with you... however Wells did not get a loan the trips were already paid for before the "bailout" and nothing was lost because Wells planned on taking those trips before this supposed bailout. Even with the merger everything was still moving forward and that was without this 25 billion.
My point is, and I will drop it after this because I am just arguing for the fun of it, The US did not bail Wells Fargo out. Wells was going to be fine even with taking on Wachovia. Yes it would have hurt some but it would not have been so bad that Wells would go under. The 25 billion was forced and that's fact.

I know how it looks but it is what it is. Bottom line is we were going to continue with business as usual before the money was forced.
So a correct analogy would be this.
You saved up money to go on a honeymoon with your wife and planned everything and bought the tickets then your Father in law makes you take $25K to spend on stuff he thinks you need and says you shouldn't be taking a trip you just got married.

Not credible. Banks have turned down bailout money. Your employer took the money.

Maybe it was the prudent thing to do, but they didn't have to.

Bull . My very well-being ultimately depended on the Big 3 getting bailouts and I was adamantly against the bailout on purely philosophical grounds.

I was then and I still am. Its called being a man of principle even when it hurts.
