Republicans Want GOP to Be Like Palin

A majority of Republican voters think Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is the best future model for the party, a new Rasmussen poll reveals.

While 55 percent of Republicans polled say the GOP should become more like Palin, only 24 percent believe John McCain is the best future model for the party, 11 percent say former President George W. Bush is the best model, and the remainder are not sure.

The poll also disclosed that 43 percent of Republican voters believe their party has been too moderate over the past eight years, 17 percent think the GOP has been too conservative, and 30 percent say its actions and positions have been about right, with the remainder not sure.

Nearly two-third of Democrats, on the other hand, believe the Republican Party has been too conservative, 42 percent said it should look to McCain for the future, and only 12 percent see Palin as the role model for the future, according to Rasmussen.

Among voters not affiliated with either party, 39 percent say the GOP has been too conservative over the past eight years, 34 percent think it’s been too moderate, and 14 percent believe the party’s actions and positions have been about right.

Overall, 52 percent of respondents have a favorable opinion of Palin, and 26 percent have very unfavorable opinion.

Some polls and pundits also see Gov. Palin out front for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

Discussing the 2012 G.O.P. race at breakfast meeting on Monday, former Speaker Newt Gingrich called the Alaska governor "very formidable" and noted that she'd have "a substantial advantage in Iowa," The New York Observer reports.

For a recent Gallup Poll, respondents were asked who, out of 10 candidates, they would like to see run for president in 2012.

Running first was the party's 2008 vice presidential nominee, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, with 67 percent wanting her to run.

A pathetic attempt by Republicans to try and figure out what the regular folks want to hear. Palin on the other hand doesn't have to do that since she is one of the folks. The left will continue doing what they've always done by labeling their opponent "stupid" since it worked so well to defeat Reagan and Dubya.

I view Palin as very nice blank canvas onto which "republicans" are projecting their hopes. She has around three years to develop her painting skills and decide what she's going to paint. It may be the Mona Lisa or it may be paint by numbers. Either way, it will be interesting to watch unfold.

She speaks of Reagan and Ron Paul with high regard so I have my fingers crossed, but I wouldn't bet a dollar on her yet.

At least, I thought that at first. Then I found out that she knows absolutely nothing about national issues. I mean, zero. People who read magazines at the doctor's office know more than she does. She might as well be a goat herder in Pakistan.

If Sarah Palin is the nominee in 2012, then the Democrats don't need to worry about spending much money to get Obama re-elected.

    For SnakeBoy:

Either way, the Palin moment shed a powerful light on the power, the potential, and the ultimate inadequacy of a conservatism grounded solely in cultural populism. It also exposed the vulnerability of the Left to a challenge to its most cherished claims—as the sole representative of the interests of the working class and the only legitimate path to political power for an ambitious woman.

And, perhaps even more telling, it revealed the unfortunate and unattractive propensity of the American cultural elite to treat those who are not deemed part of the elect with condescension and contumely

    Very good commentary!

But that roadmap will only take that Republican politician so far. The rest of the journey requires the articulation of a broader vision for American families, American prosperity and freedom, and American security; a vision of conservatism, not only a nimbus of populism.
It will happen. It will happen. It will happen.

Republicans need someone ARTICULATE who actually understands the significance of the words that come out of his/her mouth.

That's probably the biggest problem with the talk radio era GOP. The politicians/pundits all know the right talking points but they don't actually understand/internalize them. (ie McCain)

Then dumbass conservatives believe what they say instead of looking at what they do. That is the biggest reasons why Republicans have such a hard time nominating candidates who aren't complete idiots.

In fact, the only Republican I think who actually believes what he says is Ron Paul but he's unelectable for other reasons.
