How about play for 3 years from now? Hornets aren't winning a le as long as Peja Chandler and West are on the roster.
I say they trade West, Chandler, Peja for picks/young players if they can, and get under the cap and hope to strike 2010 gold![]()
The last two games have proven we need to play for next season. We're not ever going to win a championship with this group. We lost our edge after losing Game 7 at home. I know things would have been different if we didn't suc b to the pressure of that game, but now its time to make changes.
1) Trade Posey to a championship contender. We don't need his services anymore. He's been great overall, but he his services will be better used elsewhere.
2) Trade West to a team who will make him the number 2 option. We've got all we can out of him. Two-time All-Star, a playoff appearance. But we need someone else to be the go-to guy and its not gonna be him. He's better served going to a team like Cleveland where he could start at PF and be Lebron's sidekick. CP3 has to run the team so he can't be used as a number one option. He needs someone else.
3) Peja's contract will prevent him from being traded, but that's ok. He does alot more offensively than West and is deadly in transition. He proved alot when West was out by averaging 21 pts a game, 54% from the field, and 51% from the 3-point line in leading the Hornets to a 4-1 record without West.
4) Keep Chandler. He's young, athletic, a good rebounder and defender and like Peja, gives CP3 some easy assists.
5) Develop Hilton Armstrong and Julian Wright. Along with CP3, these two are our remaining lottery picks. The last lottery pick before those three was Baron Davis and he's long gone. Those 2 guys have potential, but cannot develop without consistent playing time. We're not going to win a championship this season so why not play them as many minutes as possible. We need to get younger and what better way than to play your lottery picks.

Peja's salary is ridiculous. It's gonna be impossible to trade him. I don't mind keeping Chandler. He's only 25, can defend and rebound, plus gives CP3 some easy assists. He's good to have against the Duncans, Bynums, etc. Plus, his contract expires by 2010 anyway.
True on Chandler
No team with Peja as its third fiddle will ever win a championship though. Hornets need to trade for someone to relegate Peja to the 4th offensive weapon, or hope someone like Wright develops.
Same with David West as the #2 option. All he does is hit fluke shots.
The problem is West is our number one option offensively. CP3 scores more, but he always runs plays for West. There's not a better PF in the game who can consistently hit the 17 ft jumper as good as West. He's money when he's on. The problem is, he's inconsistent when it comes to shooting off the dribble which he has to do most of the team since he's smaller than most PFs.
Right now, Peja is our number 2 guy. He was fantastic without West in the lineup. Mainly because we had more spacing and better ball movement. Plus, we were in transition alot more often which Peja is at his deadliest. With West on the floor, basically he just stands in the corner and waits for a shot. Without West, he becomes a completely different player.
what the ? Your team made the playoffs for the first time in forever JUST LAST SEASON, and you're already talking about how u need to blow it up cuz they can't get it done? Talk about a sense of en lement.
That's a really good trade you came up with. I like it. Very creative. That would leave us with Chandler, Amare, Peja, Butler, and CP3 with Hilton, Wright, Brown, and Daniels as our backups. Our team would drastically change.
I wish we could find a way to get a SG like Stephen Jackson on our team. We have alot of SFs like Posey, Peja, Butler, Peterson, and Wright, but our only true SG is Devin Brown and he needs to be a backup.
Well Nash gets to play with his fav coach again, Hornets get there go to guy who can score in the paint and the suns get to revamp there team as they see fit! Everybody wins!
Isn't the goal to win a championship? At this pace, we might not even make the playoffs and even if we do, we're not going to go very far. You wouldn't understand how it felt to lose that Game 7.
omg
ARE
YOU
ING
KIDDING
ME?
A ing Charlotte/New Orleans/Oklahoma City/New Orleans Hornets fan is trying to tell a Mavericks fan that he doesn't know what it feels like to lose in the playoffs?
Couldn't have felt worse than game 6 of GS series or the Cheat series where fluky bull shots and whistles denied our franchise a championship.
I dont see the Hornets being contenders with this current group, but CP3 is only 23 so they can retool around him while he's 26-27 and in his prime.
Your profile lists you as a OKC fan. I didn't know you were a Mavs fan.
You know the feeling of losing a tough series. Isn't that why you guys first got rid of Nash, then brought in Terry, hired Avery, etc? Its no fun being stagnant.
Mavs are kinda stagnant in mediocrity right now themselves, but their superstar is 30 instead of 23.
But IMA GET THEM POM POMS OUT for this 4 game win streak right here! YEAH F U MONO.
Actually Avery was hired cause Nellie stepped out. Nash was traded because the way they were going they felt he could not continue to play at a high enough level and thought they could move on without him. Now with the Kidd fiasco and them losing the future Cuban and put himself in a huge bind. Kidd's contract is massive and he's just not the player he was. Anyways your right NO will not win with it's current team and while it's safe to say they made great progress if they try and wait it out for another player to come along they are gonna be in the playoffs every year and out early every year. Sort of like the Spurs in the 90's until the miracle draft pick of Duncan was handed to us on a silver platter. Doubtful NO gets that lucky :P. Trade west for somebody like Marion or Amare who is unhappy but get somebody who can be a beast from the PF/SF slot. Somebody who can create his own shot and take pressure off CP3 to create a shot for somebody else not named Peja. Tyson can anchor the d and be a beast off the boards. Plus like you said his contract comes up in 2010. So get rid of West within the year. Set yourself up with a player who can make his own shot.
Ah okay, sorry I thought most ppl already knew that was a joke.
Yeah but you guys still just made the playoffs for the first time last year. You guys have a lot of years to be contenders. With Chris Paul you're contenders for the next decade at least. You should at least give this group this year before making some adjustments. The Mavs tinkered every year, but they never made a move with the intention of giving up on the season, neither does any team with a great franchise player.
ESPN reported last night that Hornets are trying to make some trades to cut payroll since they will be 6 million over the cap next season and Shinn doesn't want to pay the luxury tax. They were rumoring Peja could be the guy, but I think his salary is too hard to dump. West makes a little more than 9 million a season. Posey makes 6-7 million. Those two guys may be easier to trade. Peja makes like 13 million.
son west's 9 million a season is pretty cheap for an all-star player, though he is just clutching the brim of all-star game. Hornets can make the most of his contract in packing it with peja's, then trade the package to houston for tmac's garbage contract. Tmac is undoubtedly a but he still has plenty of ass-kissers, landing him can significantly increase the number of fans who watch hornets' games in the gym. and tmac is just a PG that can fill their desire for a PG.
The New Orlean's Chris Pauls are a great team, I would give them some more time before "blowing it up". If its any consolation, Paul has my vote for MVP, as the whole team just absolutely collapses without him on the court.
