Nazism, officially National Socialism[1][2][3][4] (German: Nationalsozialismus), refers to the ideology and practices of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party under Adolf Hitler, and the policies adopted by the dictatorial government of Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945.[5][6][7][8]

Nazism is often considered by scholars to be a form of fascism. While it incorporated elements from both left and right-wing politics, the Nazis formed most of their alliances on the right.[9] The Nazis were one of several historical groups that used the term National Socialism to describe themselves, and in the 1920s they became the largest such group. The Nazi Party presented its program in the 25 point National Socialist Program in 1920. Among the key elements of Nazism were anti-parliamentarism, Pan-Germanism, racism, collectivism,[10][11] eugenics, antisemitism, anti-communism, totalitarianism and opposition to economic liberalism and political liberalism.[12][13][11]

Nazism was not a monolithic movement, but rather a (mainly German) combination of various ideologies and groups such as Strasserism and Black Front, sparked by anger at the Treaty of Versailles and what was considered to have been a Jewish/communist conspiracy to humiliate Germany at the end of the World War I. The Nazis scapegoated the German-Jewish community — and by extension, world Jewry — for all of Germany's ills.

The Nazi Party assumed power in 1933 in the aftermath and decline of the Weimar Republic. In response to the instability created by the Great Depression, the Nazis sought a Third Way managed economy that was neither capitalism nor communism.[14][15] Nazi rule effectively ended on May 7, 1945, V-E Day, when the Nazis unconditionally surrendered to the Allied Powers, who took over Germany's administration until Germany could form its own democratic government.

By the time they gained power, Hitler and Mussolini were "unquestionably" on the right wing politically, acting to abolish trade unions, collective bargaining and the right to strike. As gangs of brownshirts continued to kill socialists on sight, the Nazis ensured the first people sent to the concentration camp at Dachau in 1933-34 were socialist and communist political leaders.

Only the communists were consistent in their opposition to fascism. Winston Churchill deserves credit for being a lone voice within the Conservative party with his opposition to Hitler, though it must be added that Churchill also expressed support for Mussolini prior to the war.

Soviet leader Joseph Stalin desperately wanted an anti-Hitler pact, but western powers remained very very reluctant - this was one of the factors that led Stalin into the bizarre and fateful Molotov-Ribbentrop pact of 1939.

If the Nazi's were left, Why was it those on the right of German politics who handed the Nazi's power in 1932/33? Why was it the conservative Von Papen made the ill fated decision to form a 'new right wing coalition' which included the Nazis, thinking he could control them?

Hitler certainly pushed forward the agenda of the traditional right, using some of the language of the left.

Hitler and the Nazis fit into the Wikipedia definition of right-wing "like a glove."

If you want to know more about Nazism I suggest you read more of the work of respected historians, and rely less on the self-interested rantings of libertiarian think tanks.

    fascism is cooperate socialism.
I would call it a mix of corporatism and socialism rather than corporate and socialism.

    Pssst...

Lefties... What's the democrats in congress and Obama doing...

Trying to make corporations government controlled. That's corporatism! They are regulating our lives, removing personal freedoms... The democrats are being fascist!

Communism and Fascism more alike than not...regardless of meaningless "definitions."

    Why?

They both depend on huge centralized state/governmental power and control.

And all totalitarian govts fight each other. Communist China and Commuist USSR always were fighting. "fascist" germany and Communist USSR fought each other. Hitler murdered 6,000,000 Jews, Stalin Murdered 20-60 million (accurate figures almost impossible to discern from that secretive time) of his own.

Centralized Governmental control and power is why Fascism and Communism are more alike than not. Stalin and Hitler are almost interchangeable.

Socialist's are just communist/fascist wannabe's...increasing state control until even the densest of fools finally realize what's happening.
