Good decision.
Good decision.
"Tim tried to renegotiate his contract, so I had to sit him."
1.Convincing us nonbelievers (myself and a lot of people included) to believe in what he was doing after firing bob hill.
2.Convincing Tim (the alpha and the omega) Duncan to stay with San Antonio and telling Orlando and his friend Grant Hill to off.
Pop teaches Horry how to take a charge !!!
June 10, 2007 NBA Finals Game 2 : Cleveland Cavaliers at San Antonio Spurs.
"That's all I could do," Popovich said, remembering his athletic days at the Air Force Academy. "That's the best thing I could do as a player is fall down."
"I was so scared," said Horry, who had five blocks, five points and nine rebounds in 26 minutes Sunday. "I was like, 'Please don't be hurt, please don't be hurt.' But he jumped up fast; that shows you how tough he is."
Horry, whom Popovich called "our star" Sunday, has been here before.
Next time, Horry has some advice for his coach.
"Get out of my way," he joked. "Just jump up, jump up on the scorer's table, a la Steve Nash."

Horry has Jazz hands in that pic.![]()
Pop's the league's biggest flopper.
Now we know were Tony learned to turn every fall into a reverse moon.
Hey b, is it hard to be a sarcastic jerk every other time you log in?
they are physically kicking our ass
I also remember in another game Sager was asking him a few dumb questions and he left in the end without answering the last question, TNT cut that part.

craig saiger: how do you feel about the game?
pop: not great.
cs: how do you slow it down?
pop: i dont know.
cs: but you're gonna find out?
pop: yeah.
either "hes manu ginobili", or the dry smile thats always half on his lips when hes making some bogus joke in mockery of the interviewers
"I asked them if it wasn't too much trouble, if I wasn't being too pushy, if they could execute what we were trying to do. And if it didn't make them too angry, if they also wanted to play some defense on the other end, that would be great."
Some post game interview where the Spurs really picked it up in the second half. I don't recall the game, but it was a fab quote.
"Expect nothing. Ask for nothing."
Allegedly written on the team's whiteboard during a playoff series.
I don't know if I saw it live, but in one of the Spurs championship editions of SI they mention that it got used in a film session following a rough loss. Pop had the video guys put together a reel of defensive miscues and problems. The final part of it consisted of a black screen with the words, "And always stay alert" or "Always keep your hands up" or something along those lines, followed by a slo-mo replay of Pop catching the ball in his nuts.
2007 Parade - "We kicked ass."
Upon being asked for the millionth time about the Spurs future point guard during the 2003 off season - "Well, point guard is a very important position on a basketball team, so I think we will continue to have one next season."
pop is the champion of deadpan comments.![]()
2005 Finals Game 1, when the Pistons lead 17:4, or something similar.
That's the one I was going to post. And then when Duncan came to the podium, someone asked him about Pop politely asking them to play better and Tim said, "That's what he calls polite?"
The funniest part of it was how the whole Delta Center began to laugh for a second, and then all held their breath at once once as the whole arena pictured taking that pass themselves. You could hear a pin drop on the broadcast in that brief period. The only other time I can remember hearing a whole arena gasp like that was game 5 in Detroit, the second Horry got the ball wide open at the three in OT (it was the play where he faked the three, then went in and jumped over Hamilton for the dunk).
Pop's end of quarter interviews are always classic.
Phil Jackson's aren't bad either.
Don't recall the game or the exact dialog, but I think it was also with Sager on TNT.
Sager: What do you need to do in the fourth to get a win?
Pop: Score more points than them.
Oh, Pop
I'm going to miss this team when they disband.
All good funny moments...
Here's one that shows his stern side...
I can't remember who we were playing but the whistles were heavily unbalanced... He then implored the group to focus and to play through it... On the following play Ginobili get's fouled and the refs predictably swallow their whistles... A flustered Ginobili proceeds to complain and Pop quickly yanks Ginobili out of the game... in a mixture of confusion and anger Ginobili walks toward the bench but says something to the ref. Pop then yells at Ginobili and tells him to, "sit the f#*! down"...![]()
