    More Transaction Shenanigans

John Hollinger, ESPN.com: Look for a few veterans to take a month-long siesta from their teams in a trade-and-waive scenario, much like Brent Barry did a year ago with San Antonio. High on the list of likely vacationers is another veteran Spur, Bruce Bowen. His deal for next season is only partly guaranteed, so San Antonio could include him in a trade with a team looking to dump salary. Then his new club could buy him out, pocket the cap savings and allow him to rejoin the Spurs.

I think it's safe to assume that Bowen's practically-expiring deal is among the Spurs more juicy assets. I think it's also pretty safe to assume that any team that would take Bowen's deal for the cap benefits wouldn't be looking to keep Bruce on the roster through the end of the regular season.

Couple that with Horry's rights in a S&T scenario, and there's another juicy asset.

I would hope though that a team who would acquire him, wouldn't keep Bruce. He IMO is still VERY VERY key to this team winning number 5.

Not going to happen because Rob would actually have to report and practice and show an intent to play.

What if a team traded for him and then kept him on purpose to hurt the Spurs.

If Horry can walk away with a substantial check for doing nothing, why wouldn't he? Keith Van Horn showed in Jersey last year, and took a physical, passed it and walked away with a few million bucks. I don't see why Horry wouldn't consider the prospect of some free $$$.

I would assume that they would have an under-the-table agreement about his release with any trading partner.

Van Horn never had the intent of playing with New Jersey, and neither did Aaron McKie when he was shipped to Memphis in the Gasol deal.

    Bowen 4 mil, Oberto 3.5 mil, Bonner 3 mil = 10.5 mil
means we can trade for anyone 12 mil or under. Horry sign and trade allows an up to the ante or a few more toss ins like Vaughn and Udoka. Teams are desperate to shed salary. It's a buyer's market.
Wallace, Carter, Kaman, Camby, Jamison, Miller, Wilcox, Collison, Villanueva, Chandler and even Amare are all obtainable.

    Bowen, Horry, Udoka for Sheed.

They waive Bowen, we resign him.

Bowen, Vaughn and Udoka for Salmons would work. I don't see a Gasol like trade out of this scenario, but salmons would be a good pick up

The Spurs would make sure they had an agreement to buy Bowen out prior to the deal. The Spurs plan for everything when they make trades.

You'll never see a debacle like Kerr forgetting to make the 2010 pick given to OKC lottery protected occur with SA.

If the Spurs pull this off again, my money is on the league to change this rule so players can't go back onto their same team a month later. Perhaps ever.

    No chance.

    Players union wouldn't allow it.

There is no incentive for Detroit to do that since Sheed's contract is up at the end of the year anyway. They would want some value back. Bonner's stock may be up some now along with Splitter's rights and maybe our 2011 1st round pick plus whomever to fill in for salary purposes. I think the Spurs would want to include Bowen and Udoka instead of adding Horry and going over the luxury tax threshold. That would mean .
