Cool new ESPn trade feature

ESPN now shows Hollingers adjusted W/L projection for a team after a trade.

Of course, its an inexact method, but I found it neat

For our beloved Mavs, we're projected to finish 48-34 as is

Kidd for Davis/Kaman: 47-35
Kidd for Shaq: 51-31
Howard/Stack for Carter/Dooling: 54-28
Howard/Stack for Lebron (lol): 56-26

Of course trading howard would make our team a lot better, even for nothing in return. But I disagree our team would have a better record with VC than with Kaman/BDavis, a center is definitely more effective for our team. and we would also have to make some other teams in addition if we made the shaq/kidd deal, we would have no PG after trading kidd, especially considering JET would still be out for 6 weeks. Howard/stack for VC/dooling is the best senario, it is less risking than kidd for BDavis/Kaman which seems more benefitial, though we would still have to continue our seek for a decent center.

it'll never be a good idea to trade bass who is the only roster that is doing dirty works in our paint. any trade involving stack would definitely upgrade our team I think, it would be even more ideal if we can also ship George along with stack.

+2 wins is A LOT in 35 games. Plus its Carter AND Dooling

That's like 4-5 games over 82... which doesn't seem farfetch'd when you truly think about it.

Also its +8 wins over Howard/Stack... thats 16-18 wins over an 82 game season Lebron would give our beloved Mavs that Howard/Stack wouldnt.

Seems about right.

But again, the formula is purely mathematical and disregard the many intangible aspects of basketball, especially when one player goes to a different team, roster, environment, etc.

Again, didnt say the formula is bullet proof :P

but I take what some of hollingers methods say legitimately. After all, his power rankings have correctly predicted the NBA champion the past 2 years

It's probably primarily based on the PER of the incoming and outgoing players.

And PER is of course too shallow to observe things.

Shaq/Carter/Camby all have PERS over 20 though

Davis/Kaman are at 15-16.

Miller is at like 12 (below average), same with Udrih

Salmons around 16

Exactly, but Kaman is more feasible than shaq that earns 20m/yr I think. Try to trade stack/filler for Kaman, add some picks if necessary. trading kidd for him and BDavis is our last option.
