Its very weird now that you think about it. He hasn't played too much and got a lot of rest. Why wait until the day before the road trip to get the ankle looked at? Today is the 17th. When is the trade deadline? the 19th? Maybe I am reading too much into this. I hope so.

Manu missed the Denver game because of a bruised thigh, so it's a moot point with him, but I still think in retrospect that putting in Tim and Tony in the 4th quarter of a close game would've been a good move, and would've been as surprising to Denver as initially sitting them. Regardless of the outcome, they both would've only played 7 or 8 minutes, which is still essentially a night off for an nba player. Tomato, tomaato... we'll probably never know... it's a judgement call.

yup one of 2 things happened:

    1) this is a serious injury that is why spurs office kept it a secret while negotiating
    2) this is not too serious that is why doctors + Manu did not mention it. This move is just precautionary

I really, really hope its #2

    Ginobili's hurt?! No way!!!

    How did that happen??

When are the Spurs going to trade this guy and get a reliable, durable, scoring guard that doesn't turn the ball over 5 times a night?

    Well that sucks.

I kinda see this as an end to the Carter talks. Since we would be giving up three players from our backcourt rotation (Hill, Mase, Bowen) for Carter.

With Manu out for who knows how long, that would leave use with Parker, Carter, Fin, Udoka, Hairston, and Vaughn as our backcourt. Scary.

At least thats how i see it. Best case scenario: manu's out for a couple games and the guys step into his spot and still get some Ws. Plus Malik gets some real playing time.
Worst case: lingering injury that kills our Championship chances.

Of course, the FO could see this as a sign to make a move for a big time player like Carter for some insurance, who knows.....damn manu... get 100% better...

Salmons is averaging about 18/4/4 this season, is 29 years old, and is signed for the next two years at about 5 million a year. His contract is an absolute steal for what anyone would be getting in return. If Sacramento is in salary-slashing mode, it's really a no lose situation for the Spurs. He's an upgrade at a very reasonable price, and wouldn't kill the Spurs' salary cap like Carter.
While Salmons isn't the offensive machine that Carter is, he may be a better fit - in many other ways.

If the Spurs can't bring in a big, I'd rather see them go this route.

Yeah... no. Don't think it'll be that serious.

And thanks senor. , I was hoping SF, so he could take time away from Fin.

ive said it before too. if there isnt a play to be made for a big, id rather inquire about salmons than stand pat. he doesnt provide a necessity, but he improves our sf spot, and give us a bit of insurance if one of our other wings comes up a bit gimpy. and with his contract, even if his scoring falls off, as long as hes hitting even near his recent percentages and playing defense, hes a big plus.

problem is, i dont think they want to move salmons for cap space alone. they are really hoping to package him with one of moore or thomas. and we probably cant swing that kind of deal (not without having to go into the tax to do it).

Damn... I know it's a big "no-no" to suggest this, but I recall hearing something about subbing manu for mason or hill in the VC deal to get the Nets to include Lopez. It would hurt to go through with because he's been the heart & soul of the team, but I would've done it before this news. I wonder if they can swing that? lol

If this is anything that's going to linger - and it would appear even the best case it'll bother him for a while - LA is going to sleepwalk to the Finals.

nets have no interest in manu. their window is 2010 and beyond. trading an aging veteran sg for an aging veteran sg while having to dump one of the best big man prospects in the entire league is ludicrous.

I just can't see how this would be trade related. Pop couldn't go to Manu and be like "hey sit out these couple of games because we might trade you and we don't want you to get hurt. If the trade doesn't pan out, then you can join us later in the week "

Manu has to be hurt. And to be hurt for a while before the break and still hurt after the break is bad news.

Maybe that's why he struggled converting buckets at the end of the Toronto game? Seems weird to crop up now and not late last week.

Hopefully nothing serious, but after last year it would suck not knowing which Manu you were going to get game by game. That sunk our chances last year.
