Hopefully it's a minor sprain and the Spurs are just being extra cautious because they don't want him to overcompensate on his surgically-repaired ankle. It'd be great to get a quote from Manu on this situation . . .

If the Spurs trade Manu, it will be the last I ever root for them, even though I'll always really like Timmy.

The Spurs have been mostly dead to me since Pop traded Rasho anyways.

I don't see Manu being traded. I think he's honestly sore. Maybe Pop is going to play people he would like to be traded to "show them off"...? It's the Knicks, so why not? Not much of a risk.

Damn, how many Spurs fans are actually just Argentinian or Ginobili fans?

If they were to deal him (unlikely they will) its not like they are dealing a stud in his prime like Parker or a HOFer like Duncan. Manu is about done anyway.

hopefully this is only short term and not some lingering effect ginobili will have for the rest of his career after his ankle surgery. he just returned to full form and it turns out his ankle couldn't handle it. him possibly going tmac the rest of his career is troubling.

At his point we just need to know from Manu himself to see how severe that was and why they didn't seat him out in the Toronto game if it was injured then already...

I think Pop is just being TOO conservative and cautious on a lil pain... that's all...

well, hopefully the Spurs will turn a negative into a positive.

That young guy Finley obviously needs to get some more playing time and get some confidence. He just looks a bit scared out there which is totally understandable for a rookie like him.

    Ginobili's hurt?! No way!!!

    How did that happen??

When are the Spurs going to trade this guy and get a reliable, durable, scoring guard that doesn't turn the ball over 5 times a night?

    W ii? playstation?

    Holy crap

nets have no interest in manu. their window is 2010 and beyond. trading an aging veteran sg for an aging veteran sg while having to dump one of the best big man prospects in the entire league is ludicrous.
I thought Manu's contract ends in 2010? Also, Manu makes considerably less than Carter while producing at the around the same level so there is some financial benefits there. Since they are looking at remaining compe ive between now and then while looking to revamp come 2010, they could get Manu who should rub off on their young players while keeping the team compe ive + throw-in A + throw-in B + maybe Splitter's rights (talented big man for the future who can still come to the NBA in 2010) all while saving money. The Spurs get a replacement for Manu (VC) AND frontcourt help for Tim (Lopez). It would hurt to see Manu go, but I think it would make sense for both teams.

For the record, I know Manu's not going ANYWHERE but it would make business/basketball sense.

Well now is the time to not be scared the youngster needs to show what he's made of.

In his last 10 games he's averaging:

    20 points
    5.9 rebounds
    3.7 assists
    2.5 steals

    Sure sounds like he's "done".

if you believe any of the rumors going around, if they are looking to trade vince for cap relief, then they arent looking to stay compe ive. they would rather take the immediate saving from netting expirings/cheaper contracts than the lesser savings from receiving manu.

i doubt they would do carter for manu straight up, let alone include a player like lopez. most people here have his value pegged way too low. hes one of the steals of the 08 class.

NJ needs to put a team out on the floor for the 09-10 season. Why would they trade VC for deals that all run out at the end of this season and then be forced to overpay someone to take a 1 year deal during the offseason?

I agree on the Lopez take... I don't undervalue him at all. He's the only reason I would (hypothetically) do this trade. No way I'd involve Manu in a trade for VC, but if it would help pry Lopez away

Big picture is much larger than 10 games. Ginobili has missed 13 of 51 games already, likely to be 16 of 54 after this road trip.

Last year he only missed 8 games. The most he missed was in 05-06 at 17 - which he likely will surpass this year if this injury is anything worse than best-case scenario.

He still has skills but if he doesn't have the health what good is it? Physically - that fuel tank is getting closer and closer to E. What does he have left - 1, no more than 2 years, before he falls apart completely?

As long as he's healthy for the playoffs, it doesn't matter that much.

Last year he only missed 8 games. The most he missed was in 05-06 at 17 - which he likely will surpass this year if this injury is anything worse than best-case scenario.
And last year he was injured for the playoffs which struck a death knell to the Spurs le hopes. I'd rather have the Spurs be cautious with him during the season if it means him being healthy for the playoffs.

He still has skills but if he doesn't have the health what good is it? Physically - that fuel tank is getting closer and closer to E. What does he have left - 1, no more than 2 years, before he falls apart completely?
Closer to empty? Because he's had a couple ankle injuries? Seriously?

The games missed combined at the age he as has to be a major red flag for SA.

How close was SA from cutting bait with him this past summer for those ankle injuries? If Manu loses his quickness, he loses the best part of his game. No reason he should be guarded by the likes of Sasha Vujacic.

We'll see how it plays out. But this doesn't sound like a simple precaution considering all the rest he had prior to the AS break and the word its been bothering him for some time.

    Not close at all.

If Manu loses his quickness, he loses the best part of his game.
Manu is more shifty than quick.

No reason he should be guarded by the likes of Sasha Vujacic.
    Injured.

That's like saying no reason Bynum should have averaged zero points in the Finals while the Lakers were getting curbstomped by the Celtics.

But this doesn't sound like a simple precaution
It doesn't sound like anything because there's hardly any news. Before dancing on Manu's grave, at least get confirmation on the nature of the injury.
