    Jefferson

Chad Ford: Two days ago, it looked as though the Trail Blazers, armed with Raef LaFrentz's expiring contract, would make some noise at the trade deadline. However, as of Wednesday afternoon, it is still unclear what, if anything, the Blazers will do.
Sources say the Bobcats turned down a Blazers offer for Gerald Wallace on Wednesday afternoon. Sources also say the Vince Carter-to-Blazers talk has cooled considerably.
That means the most likely trade scenario for the Blazers would be a deal with Milwaukee for Richard Jefferson. The teams previously discussed swapping Jefferson and Luke Ridnour for LaFrentz and Travis Outlaw.
Although there was significant chatter around the league Wednesday afternoon that Portland was closing in on a deal for Jefferson, sources from both teams insist it isn't true. In fact, a Bucks source told ESPN.com that Milwaukee hasn't heard from the Blazers in a while.
Another source conceded Wednesday afternoon that there's a chance the Blazers might not do anything before the trade deadline. Instead, they would take the savings from LaFrentz's contract and try to make a deal in free agency during the summer. Although the Blazers won't be flush with cash, they should have somewhere between $7-9 million in cap room, depending on where the cap comes in.

Though a deal is not imminent, the Cleveland Cavaliers have talked to the Milwaukee Bucks about acquiring forward Richard Jefferson, two league executives said Wednesday afternoon.

Cleveland is offering the expiring contract of Wally Szczerbiak for Jefferson, who has two years and $29.2 million left on his contract.

The Bucks have also been in talks with the Portland Trail Blazers about a package that would include Jefferson for the expiring contract of Raef Lafrentz and Travis Outlaw.

From an asset standpoint, it doesn't look good for the Spurs landing anyone. Their offers just aren't that attractive in comparison to other teams.

Portland is obviously driving the bus right now. They've got the one fat contract offering immediate cap relief and the young talent to compliment. Everyone else has to just take a seat and wait for the Blazers to decide whether they want Vince or RJ. After they decide then either the Bucks or Nets will start considering other offers.

I wasn't active here back in June, but if I were I would not have been one of those people. He just doesn't have the strength, quickness or enough range on the jumper to be an offensive threat in this league.

Not to mention the recession-proof owner.

Maybe all this Carter/Jefferson talk is all a CIA smokescreen to cover up the fact that the Spurs are really after Marcus Camby.

The Clippers are making it seem like they'd rather trade Kaman though. Hopefully your right though.

I dunno, if the Spurs really would give Mason and Hill for Carter, or even just one...I think its a better offer for the Nets rather than the Nets taking on the contracts of Rodriguez and Outlaw, the only likeable asset from Portland is the LaFrentz piece I guess.

I don't get it either, although i read that the Nets wanted to cut cost and get better but that deal doesn't sound like them getting better to me.

Even though the Bucks would prefer a young player, since they traded Yi for RJ - they probably have no choice but to take expiring and semi expiring contracts. Theyre paying one guy $15M this season whos out for the year with a knee, and just signed Bogut to $70M, and now hes having back issues.
