maybe.
It's a character issue for me. He's a liar. If he tries to get away with having his brother double for him so he can be in two places at once, then what would make me believe that he wouldn't do something like that again if elected?
I guess you missed that whole "Coucilman NO" comments huh? "That's beyond stupid", as you put it.
Glad you had the pleasure of meeting him. Too bad you didn't understand that you were talking to a politician. Do you actually believe he just started campaiging a month ago? That REALLY is beyond stupid.
But since you seem to have a short memory span, Castro voted 'No' to Toyota, the Sculley hire, PGA, and any other issue during that time. He also served on a Council that wanted longer term limits, led by the Turtle-loving-soccer Mayor Garza. He was attached to Garza at the hip until the city turned on him. That is why he couldn't win against Hardberger.
But I'm glad you liked him.![]()

if there was a 'none of the above', I'd go vote.
It's anyone right not to vote. It would be really fkn lame if they penalized you with a fine if you didn't.
If i lived in SA i'd vote for the candidate with the evil twin. Seems like you could have lots of fun with that, might even be able to make the John Stewart show
I'm sorry for coming off so nasty, the comment wasn't direct towards the "No" portion of your comment. It was more for Blake's river parade nonsense. I fully understood your comments. I get it. I see your side of it. And yes, I am fully aware he's been running for mayor since he lost however long ago it was (eight years ago right?).
And sure, maybe I saw the politician side of him that day, but I doubt it. He showed up in jeans and a t-shirt. He was supporting his brother's event. But that's neither here nor there. That was just a one time thing.
"I have solved this political dilemma in a very direct way: I don't vote. On Election Day, I stay home. I firmly believe that if you vote, you have no right to complain. Now, some people like to twist that around. They say, 'If you don't vote, you have no right to complain,' but where's the logic in that? If you vote, and you elect dishonest, incompetent politicians, and they get into office and screw everything up, you are responsible for what they have done. You voted them in. You caused the problem. You have no right to complain. I, on the other hand, who did not vote -- who did not even leave the house on Election Day -- am in no way responsible for that these politicians have done and have every right to complain about the mess that you created."
-the late great George Carlin
If I remember correctly they were both on the float and they misidentified him as Joaquin. They did a pretty heavy media blitz to correct everything. And his brother is pretty busy himself, he's a state rep for the west and northwest side of the city. I doubt he has time to cover for his brother.
you mean Julian's river parade nonsense. It wasn't my twin.
Apology accepted from your earlier post, ASHBEEIGH. But that was 4 years ago...a mayor was only allowed two, two-year terms.
Second, Julian was NOT on the float. Only his twin brother, Joaquin. The float was for City Councilman/woman. If Julian wasn't there, why would a State Senator (Joaquin) be on a City Council float? Julian was busy with another event that nighte (too busy to participate in the parade, I guess). Might have even been at a fund raising event for his mayoral campaign, if I'm not mistaken.
Common sense tells you that you don't put your twin brother on the float when everyone will believe it is you.
Unless you did vote, but voted for a person that didn't win......
Carlin was greatness.
you don't remember correctly.
"Julian Castro, who is running for mayor, attended a candidates forum and was not able to attend the Texas Cavaliers River Parade. Instead, he sent his brother, who was announced to the public as Julian Castro.......
....
Former Judge Phil Hardberger said, "To pretend someone else is you is a question of credibility.".....
......Joaquin Castro said his opponents need to concentrate on the "real issues" and forget about the incident.
.....It's not the first time the twins have been accused of impersonating one another.
Julian Castro was accused of impersonating his twin brother when Joaquin Castro ran for state representative. "
http://www.ksat.com/politics/4402637/detail.html
That's right. Julian must have "forgotten" to notify the public announcer as they named all the councilmen/women, and named Julian Castro, not Joaquin.
This and his little-brother relationship to the Turtle Garza lost him the election. These things don't change 4 years later.
But Julian hopes people forget.
I will vote for Diane. She is the best choice of the three, and she hands out the best candy at Halloween!
cool
Alright Blake and SA Longhorn read this one :
http://pmbryant.typepad.com/b_and_b/...n_trouble.html this has a pretty detailed explanation of what happened, "not just..oh the other one was there..."
SA Longhorn has a reason for disliking him, but Blake, at least have a valid reason.
The crop of politicians that come out of our city is embarrassing and regrettable. We should be able to search for our mayor from other city pools like we do for city manager.
you're posting a message board with opinions on what they believe happened.
This is the very last post that apparently ended the posting:
Seeing as how Hardberger won, the funniest post was:Posted by: Peter | April 26, 2005 at 02:38 PM
Old stuff I know but that float thing was the first time I ever heard of the Castro twins. And it left a bad taste. Of course they were trying to fake out the voters. Before the twins realized it was going to be a national scandal, Julian admitted that Joaquin stood in for him because he had other plans. If that's not intent to deceive, I don't know what is. I'm glad Julian lost and I hope Joaquin follows. Those boys need to grow up before they show up on my doorstep asking for a vote.
or not.Today, they will appear on ABC's "Good Morning America," CBS' "The Early Show," NBC's "Today" show and CNN's "Crossfire." Appearances are scheduled for "Inside Edition" and "Dateline NBC."
They may even fly to New York to be guests on the Late Show with David Letterman next week...
(BANG!!!!) That was the sound of Schubert and Hardberger shooting themselves in the foot....
Deceiving the public isn't good enough?
Should I not like him instead because he might try to bring a new soccer stadium on SA tax dollars?
Cisneros supporting Castro is enough reason for me NOT to vote for him.
Ash- defending something that I doubt you even remember?
Because you can tell them apart.
There's a BIG difference between having your twin sit in for you at some night parade and having him fill in for you at your job. Surely you can't be that gullible, naive or delusional.

Him being a democratic is enough reason for you NOT to vote for him.
If it's just those 3, y'all aren't left with very good choices. Castro would be the last person I'd vote for. I've met him once when I lived in SA & had a several minute conversation with him & I just didn't trust him. He is 1000% politician.
lol just received a letter penalty fine that didnt vote, wtf
i voted a week in advance....im pissed.
You should draft David Robinson to run.
Trish and Carlos Mejia are good people. Can't say nothing about her as a public servant, although I'd bet Mr. Holt will vote for her.
Has that question ever been raised though? I'm sure he would win in a landslide. probably if he ran for the gubernatorial office too.
