You obviously don't know the risks of running and/or jumping while you have a major eye injury. The reason he can't just wear goggles and play is because physical activity such as basketball runs the risk of ing up his eye even worse if the retina becomes completely detached.
Even when he comes back he'll be wearing goggles.
