The Whott Ownage here is hilarious
Yep, After I realized that, I thought about changing it so that you don't get mad but my PC went off and I needed to go to sleep.
No big deal and I know u r a cool poster.
Most Uruguayans (me included) have a complex about our independence and freedom and most of all, our differences with the Argies.
That's why it pisses us off when they tell us we are just one of ARG provinces in the soccer matches against each other
Language is not one of the main differentiators though... Just like what happens in between the Kiwis and the Aussies![]()
whottt's arguments have gone like the old SNL Francisco Franco skits. He's gone from seriously dead to critically dead to clinging to death.
We should be one country then we'd have 4 world cups (and maybe more) and we'd be closer to those damn Brazilians
How does "Uruntina" sounds?
I have family in Colonia, and I know exactly what you mean. It's hilarious when tourists ask "What do you mean Punta del Este is not in Argentina?"![]()
Oh well... we deal we it pretty well i think... when we get offended by the "provincia del Uruguay" kind of stuff... the harshest of the uruguayans would say "mandarinas mandarinas mandarinaaaass... si es que tienen tanto huevo recuperen las malvinas!!!!"![]()
A. I never presented myself as an expert on word origin of Argentina. At no point have I attempted to do that. Not a single time in this thread. You are attributing this position to me, but it is not my position.
B. I was originally saying, well he might be right...until you expanded upon your own point with the opening statement that French and Spanish are descended from Latin.
Tell me Nono...what is your next big insight, 2+2=4?
Is was at that point I realized I was arguing with an individual that in the past had known very little, say what a 5th grade geography student would know, and considered himself intelligent because of it.
Additionally, I asked a simple question and was not given an answer, in fact, you obviously don't even understand the question, because you keep giving me the same non-answer that proves you either don't understand the question, or don't know it...I'm betting you don't know it, because Wikipedia does not have that answer...
All the while you are telling to just assume the PHD linguistics professer, from Latin America, who gave me this information, is just mysteriously ing with his entire class for no apprarent reason.
I don't think you understand that when this Professor was discussing the Spanish J in class, he gave a de-facto dissertration that included every visual image of the character and associated sound, going back to the time of the Roman Empire. The entire evolution of Spanish J dating back...I don't know 2000 years? He also explained exactly why it's image and sound changed during that time.
So you go ahead and keep telling yourself how smart you are because you are one of the "elite" that realizes French and Spanish are Latin languages...I'm gonna wait until the question I want answered is answered before making my final judgement.
No offense but I was surprised to learn one Spanish country used vos...learning that 2 use it is even more of a surprise. It's the exact opposite of a FTW.
Unlike ElNono...I don't consider it backpedaling to refuse to argue from a postion of ignorance.(which explains a great deal about my previous arguments with him) Nor am I so desperate to prove I know something beyond what a 5th grader knows that I will take credit for knowing things I don't know.
Ignorance isn't a positive to me..it's a negative.
IOW, I didn't know it was used in other Spanish countries, I didn't even know it was used in Argentina until DA told me.
So the win is all yours in this case.
Paging Coyote_Geek, Paging Coyote_Geek!![]()
Are you posting this from a position of ignorance or not?
Go argue with the government of Argentina... I sure as will take their word from where the name of their own country came from instead of you or your imaginary professor.
I told you before I was going to call you out whenever you decide to sprout ignorance out of your mouth. This is just another one of those times.
At the end of the day, people reading this thread did learn a few valuable lessons:
1) If they didn't know already, they now know you're a joke.
2) As a debater, you suck.
3) You already got owned in geography, politics and history. Is math next?
I have to say, playing the ignorant role really suits you well. Plus there's the entertainment value of seeing you backpedal whenever you get called out for something re ed you said.
Now that I'm done owning your ass one more time, feel free to be a pussy (again), and add me to your ignore list.
Adios, amigo!
It's used in other LatAm countries too. Costa Rica comes to mind . . .
I don't think the word Argentina comes from a French word. I'm almost positive it comes from the word Argentum. I know I read this more than once . . .
Costa Rica?
You'll need to prove me wrong... but i think JUST ARG and UY use it...
Don't laugh so much, amigo

En América Central
Guatemala
Honduras
Nicaragua* (voseo pronominal y verbal).
as whottt was saying earlier in this thread... Wikipedia doesn't own the only indisputable truth in this planet for EVERYTHING...
I have worked with people from all of those countries for more than 9 months on a cruise line and i have NEVER and i mean NEVER heard them use "vos"...
Paraguay by the other hand... i missed them, my bad... they actually started to use it since the infection of the Argentinean Media (TV shows etc) in the region...
Also... FOXSPORTS using mostly argies for their shows may have started to spread it around in other countries in South America now i bet...
I wouldn`t take the argentinian government word for anything they have to say.

Let's take a look at your great insights and your so called debate ability.
1. Whottt says hey I just learned this. Says what he learned,.
2. You tell whottt he is full of .
3. Whottt says why, you post wikipedia articles and state French and Spanish are Latin Languges.
4. You then say my PHD instructor was lying.
5. You then say I am making him up.
6. You do this(as you always do) worrying more about your audience and who agrees with you, than if you are actually right. You seem to be operating under the severe delusion that if people agree with you, you are right.
7. You consider not arguing on a subject you are not knowledgable on to be "backpedaling".
You have childlike cognitive ability and an extremely dull intellect, not to mention a weak character that needs the support of others...and nothing you will ever do in this lifetime will change that. It's not common sense and a simple clarity of understanding as you seem to think it is, it's a limited intellect and you completely incapable of realizing just how limited it is.
And it does not matter how many other dullards you get to agree with you. It's still going to be the truth. If anything that's a confirmation of just how unintelligent you truly are...you'd be one of the people burning witches at the stake or branding round earthers as heretical..
In spite of all this...you very well may be right about the origins(the parts I that contradict my statement even though there weren't many) and it may have nothing to do with a French word or the word Costs, and my instructor very well may be wrong. It's just that the more your open your mouth and utter brilliant statements like, Spanish and French are descended from Latin as if it is something that needs to be said, the more I realize how unlikely it is that you will be the source of some exceptional knowledge on this subject...whereas my instructor...he's got pretty impressive credentials.
And I'm not making him up, and I seriously doubt he's full of . You on the other hand, I know will argue from a positon of ignorance(you consider it backpedaling not to do so), and you also think posessing a 5th grade knowledge of a subject qualifies you as an expert. Sorry...it's just the truth I don't have much faith in your intelligence or your insight. No sense lying about it.
Even if it comes from Argente, Argente still comes from Argentum.
Look...I took French about 20 years ago but I do not remember virtually any of it...yet I know the French word for silvery is Argente.
Furthermore, at no point in my entire life have I known what Costa meant(although it's kind of obvious now that I know), and now I do.
Forget about all the stuff with the Portugese and Rio de Plata...I am not arguing against that stuff as I already stated I don't remember those details, didn't take notes on them, and in fact I remember him mentioning details of that sort...but that's not what he was explaining.
Tell me this...and granted I do not know about Spanish outside of cuss words...but correct me if I am wrong...
Argentina is femenine correct?
The word Argentina came from Argentino(which came from Argente I was told)...
What turned it from masculine to feminine?
River, or Rio is masculine is it not?
Costa is feminine correct?
This is the point I believe he was making when he was explaining(exactly) how it came to be...Costa Argente(or Argentino) became Argentina...
The story about Rio de Plata makes no sense...not that I doubt it was true, because I do remember him mentioning something about that...but it doesn't excplain how or why the name Argentina came into being...
The Spanish and Portugese words for silver or silvery sound nothing like Argentina...and Rio doesn't explain the masculine to femenine change.
I don't know enough about Spanish to even be aware of this on my own.
Proof that the wikipedia articles and Argentine government source have holes in them...they keep mentioning the first time the word Argentina was used in in print...
This is well after Argentina was first discovered and colonized by Spain...so obviously there is more to the story and that is not in fact the origin of the word...neither is there being rivers with silver in them.
At least I know I don't have to hear you accusing me of having a French agenda
Anyway, like I said earlier...when this guy was explaining the spanish J he went through it's entire evolution dating from the Roman Empire. Every symbol it's ever been, every sound it's ever been, and exactly why the symbols and sounds changed...
So you can see why I am leaning towards believing him over El Nono and his, Spanish and French are latin languages insight.

Incorrect. I tell whottt he and his professor are full of .
Incorrect. I did not post ANY Wikipedia articles. I posted where the country Argentina got it's name from.
He obviously was considering he doesn't know where the name comes from.
Incorrect. I'm operating under the fact that the origin of the name has been thoroughly do ented. It certainly follows that when you find multiple sources other posters will bring them up.
But you do argue. Why are you still here if you're not?
Contradicting yourself again, aren't you?
LOL... Save the cod psychoanalysis for anybody that cares what you think. I thought we established a long time ago that what you think it's mostly worthless and oftentimes wrong.
[removed the personal attacks for irrelevance and brevity]
I don't think there's the slightest doubt at this point.
[removed more irrelevant personal attacks]
Please. I've said I've been wrong on many topics before in these very same forums. Backpedaling is arguing a point, only to contradict your own ass 20 posts later. And after presented with that fact, backpedaling again to try to make reconcile. You do that a whole lot. That's why you're a weak debater, and very predictable.
Now, tell me how my ass taste...
