I don't know much about him. I hope he does well and continue beyond this 10 day contract.
Also, I guess this will end the wish fulfillment talk for Rasho or Nazr or even Elson!![]()
Pops Mensah-Bonsu will average 26 points and 13 rebounds against the Lakers

Spirs Sign Pops Mensah-Bonsu
WTF are the Spirs?
SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have signed free-agent forward Pops Mensah-Bonsu to a 10-day contract.
The 25-year-old Mensah-Bonsu had most recently been playing with the Austin Toros, the Spurs NBA D-League affiliate. In eight games with the Toros, he averaged 26.6 points, 13.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.50 blocks in 39.8 minutes. His best game with the Toros came on 2/22 vs. Colorado where he had 39 points and 18 rebounds in 47 minutes.
Mensah-Bonsu was signed by the Dallas Mavericks after going unpicked in the 2006 NBA Draft. During the 2006-07 season he appeared in 12 games with the Mavericks, averaging 2.4 points and 1.0 rebounds in 5.9 minutes. That season he also appeared in 26 games for the Fort Worth Flyers of the D-League, averaging 15.8 points and 10.4 rebounds in 30.7 minutes. Mensah-Bonsu was selected to the 2007 D-League All-Star Game where he captured MVP honors after scoring 30 points and grabbing 7 boards.
The 6-10, 240-pound forward was born in London and played collegiately at George Washington University. He spent four years with the Colonials finishing his career second on the school’s all-time blocks list (141) while earning Atlantic-10 All Conference First Teams honors during his senior year.
Mensah-Bonsu will wear uniform #54.
Pops Mensah-Bonsu February arrival to Spurs = Pau Gasol's February arrival to the Lakers.
Look for the Spurs to finish 63-19
I've read that Joe Smith has been giving mixed signals about getting bought out from OKC.
I believe something would have to happen late today or no later than tomorrow morning because March 1 is Sunday and teams have to signed waived players by then in order for them to be playoff eligible.
I read that too, but McDonald makes it sound like the Spurs free agent hopes are definitely done. I thought I had missed something.
In any event, I hope Pops gets some minutes to show what he can do.
Not just any man can step in and donn the same #54 jersey number worn by Spur greats with last names such as Duckworth, Haley and Lohaus. You have a lot to live up to Mr. Mensah-Bonsu.
With no Joe Smith or Rasho, don't we need a fifth big on the roster for the playoffs? Even if Pops wouldn't see much/any time, don't we need another big body?
Glad its official.
Even though he wasn't all that good playing defense in the D-League, I have read in other articles that he is capable of playing good D. Hopefully when he gets around the other Spurs he flips the switch. Show 'em what you got, young man.
Any chances we get to see him play tonight against the Blazers?
Also has Duncan been ruled out for tonights game?
Nothing on Duncan yet, he's listed as questionable until test results are in.
I'd be surprised if he played tonight.
Probably needs the type of instructional teaching, practice and focus on those defensive fundamentals that only the Spurs can provide. I just hope he has the opportunity to justify the call up. Can't wait to see "the man possessed" in action.
Hey, in the Spurs official line-up posts-I didn't see Pops name on the list. Will he be in a Spurs uniform tonight? Or is it too early to suit him up-or Spurs signed him too late to be on tonight' roster? What gives?
I'm looking forward to seeing him play-any thoughts?

Please don't forget the great Charles Smith... I mean he was drafted #3 overall... more than you can say about any current spur other than Duncan! lol... Oh how I don't miss the days of making ridiculous decisions that hinder the team or salary situations for years
i mean for this year. ian won't be around for the playoffs, right?
So can he play defence or not? If he can't play any D he won't be around for long.
I guess the Duncan injury must have pushed the spurs to sign this guy.
Great pickup by you guys, he is better than Moore and Joe Smith.
Pops should be in the NBA already, he is a lot like Carl Landry, Paul Milsap, and Jason Maxiel....
You guys are gonna love him.
DD
I agree, better than Joe and Mikki, and no worse than Wilcox imo.
Hope your right. , he better be active tonight. Ian, JV, and Fab need to be inactive. Idk about Fab, but there's no point in not activating someone on a 10-day. Course, Tim will most likely be inactive, just to be on the safe side.
Pop gave Anthony Tolliver quite a bit of playing time so I don't see why Pops can't get the same treatment. Especially if Duncan misses any more games.
We'll see if Pops makes the best of his chances.
I wanna see some Alley oops
It's only a 10 day contract, so it's not like there's a lot of time to gradually work him in. One would think he'd get a few minutes tonight.
Key difference is he saw AT as an Horry clone. Hopefully he sees Pops as a Robinson clone. Go whale-killer!!!![]()
TD is out for tonight.
ESPN 1250 Radio just announced it.
He is listed day-to-day with a right quad tendon issue. It's not tendonitis....but something to do with the tendon.

The Spurs have filled their 15th roster slot with a 25-year-old Englishman named Pops.
Pops Mensah-Bonsu, the talk of the NBA Developmental League, signed a 10-day contract with the Spurs on Wednesday. Mensah-Bonsu, a 6-foot-10 forward, averaged 26.6 points, 13 rebounds and 2.4 assists in eight games with the Austin Toros.
On Feb. 22, he turned in a 39-point, 18-rebound game against Colorado.
Mensah-Bonsu played collegiately at George Washington University, but went unselected in the 2006 draft. He appeared in 12 games with Dallas that season before landing in the D-League.
The signing of Mensa-Bonsu takes the Spurs out of consideration for other free-agent buyout candidates. He should provide needed depth on the front line for the Spurs, especially with Tim Duncan battling a sore knee.
He's 6'10"? I thought people around here had said he was shorter than that.
