Lost....What is up with the "Others"?

This is either a writer mistake or Daniel didn't know what he was talking about...

When Charlotte was about to die and tells him that she thought he was the scary man that told her not to come back to the island or she will die. Now if Dan knew he couldn't change the fact she died, then why would he go back to the past and do it anyways?

Seems to me that's a waste of time on his part.

This was one of the few inconsistencies I have noticed in 5 seasons of the show. It just flat doesn't make sense....why would he tell Charlotte not to come back when he knows full well she's going to.

Makes no sense, especially since he's a physicist specializing in time travel.

I think the show has a lot of commentary on strong human emotions getting in the way of reason or morality.

Kinda like Michael's love for Walt. He would go to the ends of the earth to get his son back. Even if it meant murdering Anna Lucia and Libby (accident), shooting himself in the arm, freeing a known Other, and offering a easy capture of his fellow Losties just to get Walt back.

So, maybe Faraday's continued futile trips to the past with the intentions of changing it are his way of losing control of his rationalism. His more sane side of his thoughts say it's impossible, but he blindly wants to save Charlotte's life.

Ben is the perfect example of this behavior. His pride contributes to Alex being killed, he kills Keamy out of anger and detonates the bomb on the boat carrying everyone, his lust over Juliet kept her on the island, and generally most of the that he does on a continued daily basis.

I'm going to reference the movie "The Time Machine" for this..

Its like that dude from that movie when he created the time machine to go back and save his girlfriend and he fails time and again. Fate= you cannot change.

Daniel knows this, so I dont think he would go through all that trouble knowing that he would fail in the end anyway.

If you know you cant survived in -50 cold wheather you wont try to go to that cold and surely die.

when jaffies mentioned Ben getting freed, it reminded me of Locke getting his leg stuck under the door.......which reminded of how he just fell down the well and broke his leg enough to have bone sticking out...........which reminded me of how he just got shot in the leg during one of the time flashes......which reminded me of how he fell out of the window and messed up his legs to begin with....

They could be manipulated in coordinates to plot both the Island off the coast of Australia and also a spot in Nigeria (drug plane). It gave way to some crazy theories about what was going on before time travel was introduced.

The clip they showed for next week's episode looks good, they have a spindle thingee and Faraday's mom says that's how they found the island to begin with!

I can't verify this off hand, but someone told me once that the writers from season 1 went on strike and so they had a bunch of scrubs coming up with crap in season 2.

The real writers came back in season 3 and had to try to fix the mess from season 2. It's why we haven't seen the numbers in a long long time.

He might have killed Penny, but it looks like he got his ass kicked, his face was all F'up.

Faraday's mom still scares me. Kate asked Jack not to ever bring up Aaron again, so does that mean she gave him to Claire's mom?

Very weird all the scenarios needed to be the same. Jack taking his father/Locke in a coffin, Sayid being handcuffed by a US Marshall, and what about Frank - the freakin pilot! He says - "we aren't going to Guam, are we"?

Thoughts on last night's episode....

I thought it was jam-packed full of exciting twists and turns. In some ways, that was to the episode's detriment because it failed to setup the happenings in typical detailed LOST fashion.

But, I trust that they're going to answer all of the questions (i.e. how each of them ended up on the plane, where is Aaron, how did they "flash" onto the island instead of crash, did it REALLY have to be all of them, etc.). All things considered, I'd rather there was too much crammed into an episode than not enough.

Couple theories...

- Agree that Ben killed Penny. Everything that everyone has mentioned makes sense, and I seem to recall him calling from a payphone at/near water...maybe a dock? Clearly he did it to avenge his daughter's death, but I also think it serves as incentive for Desmond to come back to the island (avenge Penny by killing Ben). I also think there's an outside shot that Desmond leads the elder Widmore back to the island, maybe taking Widmore with him...on a boat? Most of that, of course, is wild speculation at this point.

- This one I haven't heard yet....the "very smart man" that Farraday's mother says built the dharma room with the swinging pendulum....I think it was Farraday himself. What lends to that theory is the fact that you've already seen Farraday in the past (beginning of episode 1) and it appears Jack & co. have landed on the island in the time of Dharma (70's).

Overall, I thought the episode was jam-packed with goodness and I can't wait for the continuation of that storyline (likely two weeks from now after they do the Locke episode next week).

Oh and I think Ben got his ass kicked by Desmond but somehow was able to escape alive and get on the plane before Desmond caught up with him. I can see that he wouldn't kill Desmond either, because Ben knows Desmond has more to do on the island.

Ben must have set sayid up for a crime he hasnt commited and then thats why hes on the plane with a marshall, shes taking him back to the place he was meant to have commited the crime, which means they are on that plane. As for Hurley i think he is on because charlie has told him to go. I would really really like a flash where we get to see charlie again.

Of course Locke couldn't commit suicide, he had to be killed to go back to the island. Poof, then he shows up on the island - alive and well. I was wondering why they kept showing Ceasar and that other chick on the plane, so now they are the others?
