that the numbers ESPN will report are WAY WAY OFF, but they'll do it again just like they do every year.

for example, ESPN is reporting that Hall just signed with the Skins for 50+ million. in reality only 23 of that is guaranteed and the odds of Hall ever collecting more than 35 on this contract roughly zero.

I only look at the guaranteed. But still, what a stupid contract by the Skins.

I know you are a happy camper this morning K-State. You guys just signed perhaps the biggest and best free agent out there in Haynesworth.

There's no doubt that Haynesworth was the prized piece on the market. Less than half of the 100 million is guaranteed and this is likely to be the first Redskin DT that can consistently collapse the pocket since... , I'm not sure we've ever had one.

That said, I would have preferred the money be spent elsewhere (the interior of the Oline is a bigger need than the interior of the Dline). That said, maybe that money still will be spent elsewhere - the Redskins were well under the cap coming in, and the front office seems to be under the belief that the salary cap (at least in its current form) is, in fact, going to expire.

I'm sure you stopped paying attention after he left the Raiders, but he was pretty damn good in DC after being released. Especially considering that he went through training camp with another team/system.

I have one question for you? How is that you guys seem to ALWAYS be under the freakin cap? lol Every free agent time it seems like you guys manage to sign the big fish, while we can't even keep our own players in uniform, let alone go after a guy like Haynesworth.

    creative contracting.

for example, if the redskins cut Jason Taylor - Haynesworth has a lower tag # for 2009 than JT, so they would actually save money against the cap.

if you have an owner who can afford to constantly redo deals (which, contrary to popular belief, usually leads to more upfront money for the players), then the concept of 'cap ' is a bit of a myth.

don't ever speak that name again.

sean gilbert was the Glen Davis of the Redskins.

    Right due to his position.
So basically Snyder re-negotiates contracts during the year so you guys can make a big splash during free agency? I guess I have to give Snyder credit for at least trying to make the Skins compe ve.

Haynesworth is going to make $32 million in the next year. I'd be wary of a guy making that much who's had questions about his immaturity, desire, dedication, etc. throughout his career.

It should be noted that the team really hasn't done much in free agency since 2006. London Fletcher was really the only big signing over the past 2 years, and - at the time - he was definitely viewed as more of a second tier guy than an elite player.

For as much as things get spun as free agent central, the team has really only had 4 big free agent offseasons in the last 11 years. That's more than most teams, but not as many as most would think either.

Yeah I know. It's just because we never really do much of anything during the market, and ALWAYS seem to wind up losing good players to FA. Even though I'm not sweating it too much if we lose Lewis. Our last big signing was McGahee. Thank goodness Ozzie is one of the best drafting GM's in football. I don;t know where we would end up if he ever decided to leave.

I'll take you're word on it, K-State. He wasn't man to man corner, and Al was stupid enough to break the bank on him.

Skins will still have the same typical season they have had for years. They lack a qb. Campbell sucks. They also have a weak offensive line they have yet to fix. They will either start off slowly and finish the year strong only to lose in the wildcard or divisional round or they will start off strong and fall apart late in the year and miss the playoffs.

the OL isn't weak. it's just getting a little long in the tooth. that'll probably be where they go with the draft this year.

rabach, samuels, and thomas are still above average players (albeit the last 2 are probably a bit overrated). kendall holds his own. no telling what jansen/heyer are capable of at the RT anymore...
