Me too, I believe it was a game in the dome vs the T'wolves. The place went crazy, but that's all he ever did

Aww..Haley wasn't that bad. He was a good locker room guy. Schintzius...Bateer..those were some bad players...Bateer had .8 points and .8 rebounds per game. That's pretty horrible.
Uwe Blaub
Cherokee Parks
These choices are great, but in the interest of completeness, I give you -- Alfredrick Hughes.
When he was drafted by the Spurs in the first round in 1985, one TV analysist said:
Someone must have ed the nachos down there.
Yeah..but at least he averaged over 5 points a game in the Silver and Black. Bateer was a 6'11" guy who got only .8 points and .8 rebounds per game. Not even 1 point or 1 rebound per game..that's just sad.
Hughes was more like worst draft pick ever. Someone like Ed Nealy, an 8th round draft pick, would be more like a bad player, though even he got praise from Jordan.
We should probably just go to the year with the worst record (88/89?) and find the worst player.
Uwe "Burning Skyscraper" Blab!
Paul Pressey
F U, Larry Brown for that one!
Bateer was one of the best Chinese big men to ever play in the NBA...

Bateer lasted with the team a lot longer than Alfrederick the Great did. He went from starter to waiver wire like 3-4 months into his career. You NEVER see a team just completely bail on a guy they picked around 15; even worse, no other team in the league gave him so much as a second look. I remember going to games when he was our starting three and everybody in the arena was disgusted watching him. About the only worse first round pick I can think of was Len Bias.
hey now be nice....i know him and his family.
it is easily Alfredrick Hughes.....such a high pick.....but total garbage.
Budkin beat me to it......
I played ball with him a couple of times and was able to hang with him. That tells me that he definitely wasn't first round material.......or NBA material for that matter.
Oliver Robinson. 1st round draft pick of the Spurs out of UAB in '82 or '83. Tabbed as PG of the future. It turned out he was PG of the nothing. Never played. Certainly wasn't as hyped as Alfredrick "the Great" Hughes, who was much worse in terms of failed expectations.
Dammit...you stole mine.
David Wingate was my second choice...
"Wingate rocking down the court
Plays so damn good I wet me shorts
'Round the back, through the net
Homeboy...you ain't seen nothin' yet"
would have been a greater player than jordan.![]()
I started watching the Spurs when David Robinson got drafted so anybody before that I am not too sure about. But I don't think Haley should be included in this conversation for the simple fact he never really had the chance to come in and suck. His main purpose I thought was to help control Rodman. lol I think this should be limited to players who got regular playing time at some point and flat out didn't contribute anything when they did come in. Mine is a toss-up between Mighty Mouse, and Van Exel. Those two came in with high expectations to booster us at the pg position and pretty much became a liability anytime they came into the game and actually made us worse.
Sidney Green -- still the laziest player I've ever seen in a Spurs uniform.
