Waiver Stuff
By FRED KERBER
The Nets New Jersey Netslet Stromile Swift go last night creating a roster spot and a lot of speculation about who will fill the void.
They've called about Luther Head, released by the Rockets on Saturday, and although he makes a ton of sense, it probably won't happen.
Head would be a nice combo-guard insurance to give Vince Carter's 32-year-old legs some added rest. He's also cover any void should Keyon Dooling's hip get nasty - although the team consensus is despite a flare up of arthritis that kept him out of practice again today, Dooling will be fine. And you can never have enough shooting. Yup, Head makes sense.
But Head would add $200G plus to the Nets payroll and that isn't even the No. 1 factor as to why this is a long shot. If the Nets brought him in, there's no guarantee he'd play. Lawrence Frank would feel more comfortable with guys he knows, guys who have a grasp of his system. Sign a newcomer to sit is just one true way to tick off ownership. The Nets likely won't add bodies unless there were multiple injuries.
And although it's not supposed to happen (win, wink) when desirable players are waived at this point in the season, with playoff eligibility still an option -- the deadline was midnight Eastern Sunday so Head and Swift made it - there usually is a deal in place. Of course, everyone says that doesn't happen (wink, wink).
Right, Mikki Moore and Stephon Marbury Stephon Marbury, both to Boston, were two cases of deals getting hammered out nanoseconds after the waiver waiting period ended
The Spurs were considered frontrunners for Head's service although there was a lot of interest around the league.
As for Swift, look for him to surface to Phoenix.
Really?

I hope so...I've seen it on a couple of sites so far. But....there's no reason for it.
I don't see where he'd fit in here, Gooden I believe.
low confidence in hill?
I don't know...I guess that's possible..but if you take him down now, you take away HIS confidence..and the guy has a good future.
Sign Head & Gooden, dump Ime and Vaughn.
Have TP, TD, Manu, Mason, Hill, Bowen, Bonner, Oberto, Thomas, Finley, Gooden, Hairston, Head, and Gooden. Sounds good to me. lol.
Well yeah..of course...if you can just get rid of Vaughn and Ime, it'd be a of a deal...that's actually not a bad thing, now that I think about it. Didn't think of him as a 3rd...possibly 2nd when Hill is off his game.
Does this mean you think we should say goodbye to Pops? I'm not sure I'm prepared to dump the only guy who's given us any spark over the past two games...besides Hairston, of course.
The problem up front is more egregious.
WTF, this would be a bad one
See..that's the first thing that came to mind..but if we get rid of Udoka and Vaughn, we get Gooden and Head...that wouldn't be too bad.
I agree with that.
It's a known fact that the Rockets wanted to give the Spurs Head.
Luther Head played well against Spurs in the past and Spurs are known for going after players who performed well against them.
It this info is true, it will likely mean that Spurs aren't that confident about Hill's ability to be a solid backup PG during the playoffs for this year. Playoffs for rookies aren't something easy to manage.
Head would work quite well as PG with Ginobili at SG. Head would bring the ball up and let Manu do the playmaking tasks.
In truth if the Spus do sign Luther it means that Manu may be done for the season.
I thought Hill was the second coming.
Sorry I meant to add Pops in there, I forgot though. But yeah keep Pops of course, I like him. That would give u a roster of TD, TP, Manu, Mason, Hill, Finley, Bonner, Bowen, Oberto, Thomas, Gooden, Head, Hairston, and Pops. Thats 14 on the roster. 15 if you count Mahinmi.
Then why didn't we sign Bonzi Wells? hah ...
Yes to Gooden and Head. Waive Pops and Vaugh or Udoka.
Disagree with Pops...Vaughn and Udoka, yes. Pops...no..he's 25, energetic, brings a spark, and if we let him go, he's gonna go somewhere else...and we can't afford that.
Just one more..............
So if the Rockets waived Luther isn't that equivalent of Houston trying to give Head to every team in the league?
