This episode was good, but i'm looking forward to next week when we'll have everyone together again...
did you notice how Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid and Walt failed to ask John how he got to where they are? Nobody asked him how he got off the island...
That's an easy answer....trust NEITHER! I think both are trying to get back to the island for their own selfish reasons and are manipulating anyone (including Locke) to accomplish their end-game.
I do like how they cast Widmore in this episode as the one who just cares about the island. You don't know enough about him to assume he's malicious because everything bad you've heard about him has come through Ben....who ALWAYS lies.
I liked the episode, but to be honest I'm pretty disappointed in Locke. He couldn't bring anyone back (even though I thought he didn't try) and ends up so distraught by his failure that he tries to kill himself...c'mon! This is the same dude that's knifing people in the back?
I'm sure the portrayal of him as a weakling has everything to do with the fact that he's off the island (and back in a wheelchair), but I'm hoping his death has helped him find his purpose/destiny...and to NOT trust Ben!
If not, he looks less like the leader of the others and more like a pawn in the power struggle between Widmore and Ben. But there's lots of LOST left and I can't wait to get back to the Oceanic 5's return to the island.
Oh, and I can't wait to see how Ben gets away with killing Locke now that both are alive and back on the island...should be good!
FWIW, I hope he at least suffers a flesh wound.
That guy who doesn't age told John to kill himself to convince everyone, remember? During one of the flashbacks.
He didn't tell Locke to kill himself...he said he'd have to die.
And the way the story unfolded, it led you to believe that he arrived at his suicide as a natural course of his utter inep ude to carry out his assigned job (get everyone back).
Locke is LOST when he's not on the island...I get it. But, when he is on the island is he much of a leader either? Again, it just makes me think he's more of a pawn in the scheme of things than an actual future leader of the others...though I'm sure he'll have a major impact in the outcome.

My flimsy theory at this point...
If you assume they stopped shifting on the island back in the '70s, then all of them were alive in the real world at that time...including Locke. So, on the island at that time Locke is still alive b/c he doesn't die until 2008.
But it's tough to figure out the rules of time travel when you decipher it through characters on the show....characters with their own motives.
I think they were both using locke although I wouldnt know who to trust on the show widmore or ben
I think John Locke is alive in the sense that Christian is alive.

Question is, how did the statue break, when all we are left to see are its toes?
I love it that Richard perpetually looks lost and has been demeaned this season...and I think it's intentional. I think it actually adds to his mystery...to make a guy who never ages seem ordinary confuses the crap out of me.

About the episode in general....it wasn't full of crazy twists and turns, but it gave me a warm fuzzy...very good overall. Agree that the Jack/Kate/Sawyer triangle is played out and hope Sawyer has moved on.
Final thought....I enjoyed Sawyer being a badass again. He had gotten so emo over the past few episodes and I was like wtf!?!
