Nice reading Senor ! Pop is very difficult to understand : why this love for fin ? why not letting Georgie play the point ? why bowen with such few minutes to play ? why mase as a back up PG ? why ? why ? why ?
Some random thoughts from attending Mavs/Spurs game.
Game Presentation:
A spoofed rendition of the old Willle Nelson song, "Mama Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys". Insert the words "Spurs Fans" and you'll have the spoof.
The overweight fat guys dance troupe, gyrating at center court to MC Hammer songs, during timeouts, (and yes, they do have groupies).
The individual player highlight segments spun to disco tunes during timeouts. All of which cause players to pay more attention to the jumbotron than listening to what Coach Carlisle is saying.
A shot of the in-game PA announcer, "Humble" Billy Hayes, on the jumbotron, as he rises from his seat and implores the crowd to stand and cheer.
I've been fortunate enough to attend many a Spurs road game in various other NBA cities across the league. Without a doubt, the Mavs have one of the most painfully forced, overproduced, in-game presentations of any NBA team. Cuban has truly outdone himself by overselling his underachieving product to his fans. Like everything else about the Mavs organization, it's long on sizzle, yet low on substance.
As far as the game itself:
Roger Mason is the "bleeping" truth. I heard many a nearby Mavs fan shout something like "who is this guy?" or "why didn't the Mavs sign this guy?"
Tony Parker wowed the partisan crowd with his quickness and offensive brilliance.
Pop continues to relegate George Hill to a glorified SG, as he leans more on Mason as a backup PG. Hill's minutes appear to be down, along with his opportunities to run the offense.
Malik Hairston has really, quick reactions to the ball and really, quick feet. He may have already moved ahead of Ime Udoka in the rotation.
The Mavs produced an inspired performance. Their defensive pressure was very good - especially Erick Dampier on Duncan. The game itself had an almost playoff-like feel - at least for them.
Jason Terry is still a self-promoting '. No player panders to the crowd or the cameras more than this guy.
Despite another poor offensive showing from Michael Finley, Pop simply refuses to reduce his minutes. In fact, he leaned on him as an early primary defender on Josh Howard. Obviously, it did no good. Because Howard is notoriously famous for his hot starts, I thought Pop should've used Bowen earlier on him. I will give Finley credit for having active hands, bending his knees and moving his feet better than I've seen from him.
It was obvious that Joey Crawford still has an axe to grind with the Spurs, especially Tim Duncan. Crawford allowed the Mavs to virtually mug him in the paint, much to Duncan's frustration. As much as Matt Bonner couldn't get away with being physical with Dirk on the perimeter, Dampier and others were allowed to swipe, swat, check and push Duncan off the block and off his sweet areas. The offensive load seemed to be taxing on Duncan. We should all feel fortunate that some measure of frontcourt is on the way, in the form of Drew Gooden.
One last thing. Seeing our boys walk onto the court in their familiar home white uniforms, I had to look around to make sure I hadn't accidentally driven all the way to the AT&T Center in San Antonio. I can only imagine how confusing it must look to an unfamiliar NBA fan, who is tunes is and is accustomed to the home team ALWAYS wearing white uniforms.

i sure hope so.Malik Hairston has really, quick reactions to the ball and really, quick feet. He may have already moved ahead of Ime Udoka in the rotation.
nice read, btw. thanks for sharing.
Now getting more seriuos.. thanks for your impressions Señor Spur...
Did you see his celebration after Duncan's missed free throw? we're talking about one of the biggest bags in this league... with karma like that around the Mavs will never get one trophy...
It was pathetic to see Bonner get penalized like he did when they let them do to Duncan whatever they wanted.. the Spurs should file a request to the NBA not to have the referee assigned anymore... it's getting a lil too obvious...
let's hope that'll be true in the playoffs.Malik Hairstonhas really, quick reactions to the ball and really, quick feet. He may have already moved ahead of Ime Udokain the rotation.
Jeff Van Gundy and the crew explained why Pop is flirting with the idea of Mason at back up point. They said Pop needs to know if Mason can handle back up pg duties because Mason can spread the floor better at back up pg than hill and that Mason causes more problems for defenses if he is used at back up pg spot. Plus it gives the Spurs better shooters around Tim when hes at the back up PG spot. Its obvious. And I agree with this idea especially against teams with star wing players because then it gives Bowen more minutes on the floor.
yeah but so far no extra minutes for Bowen, result the lack of Hill D intensity is not counter balanced.
While I agree Mason causes more problems for defenses, he is a liability in this position in terms of ball movements and TOs.
Nice read and agree with all thus far being said, especially that Jason Terry is a bag and Queen Crawford is pathetic.
The Spurs had several defensive breakdowns where they allowed various Mavs players to drive uncontested to the hoop with little to no resistance. It was really surprising to see a Spurs team have these repeated breakdowns.
, I didn`t see the game, but if refs were doing what you`re writing, Stern should rather go blow himself.
What the was that.ESPN showed them doing a lame retro Rick Astley dance. Can't remember what the music was. Only mascots like the coyote should be dancing like that.
Hope this is not a sign of things to come in NBA arenas.. Next thing, they will replace cheerleaders.![]()
Ball movement no. Turnovers maybe.
I will never understand Pop giving more minutes to Finley than Bowen or Hairston
The Mavs just made plays. When they are getting "A" games from Dirk, Kidd, Howard and Terry, it's hard for any team to beat them. The Spurs definitely had chances but the interior defense was weak and some of the shots they needed just didn't fall for them.
An unfortunate loss but nothing to lose sleep over. The Mavs desperately needed this win and they responded. Props.
a lose is a lose, there's no need to find any excuse for it. It's just a regular season game anyway. spurs are still standing on the 2nd place in the west, though are just 3.5 up over the playoff line.
The AAC/Mavs games are one of the top-rated venues, as far as in-game entertainment and environment, in all of the NBA. Someone will post this dumb crap after every game attended, but that does little to dispute the fact that it's a fun environment for families and newcomers to attend.
As much as the AAC presentation annoys me, it's clearly made some kind of impression on whoever handles the Spurs in-game entertainment/promotions.
Interesting, observations, Senor!
I live in dallas and attend mavs games all the time and there is no in-game production more overdone than what the mavs have. Its pathetic. When you go to a mavs game that isn't nationally televised and they are playing a sub-par team, there's no fire, no maniaacs, no mid-court drum line. Its forced and cheesy and its all Cuban...
1. I've seen mark cuban get up out of his seat and run over to the PA guy and cuss him out for not revving up the crowd enough. In turn this makes the PA scream to the top of his lungs to a rediculous decibel.
2. Cuban will look up at the jumbotron immediately following a play and scream at the replay guy to replay it. If he doesn't do it quick enough, cuban will shake his head in disgust at him.
3. Cuban will stand up and get everyone around him to stand up when there is a lull in the game and make everyone start clapping when all people want to do is sit there and then he loses steam and then no one will sit down until he sits down.
Sheep follow sheep and he's got them all trained.
You attend Mavs games all the time? Why?
And were you there last night? If so, Mark Cuban thanks you for paying to watch your team lose.
You guys can all turn your noses up at the in-game presentation, but it's one of the better products running. Sorry if you'd rather have silence during the game, but that's not what it's about for the paying fan.
Lastly, if you don't like what you see and hear at Mavs games - stay home and watch it on TV for free. It's that simple AND you don't have to run to the Internet to about it.
Are you really telling me you like Chris Arnold, Billy Hayes and the constant parade of sponsored gimmicks during every break?
Come on man, you can be a Mavs homer and still admit that the AAC gets a little circus-like.
Yeah but then we have to listen to Bob Ortegal.
some spurs fans live in Dallas and the only chance they get to see their team is there bag
The ticket it's just worth by being there on a Spurs jersey... inside that arena and with full of ing losers that never saw their team NBA champion and envy the Spurs and wanna be like them? that's priceless dude
oh dude... better products out there?
again you ing idiot... it's more fun being there pissing Mavs fans than the actual game, u get it or i need to be even more clear?
I hope all of the spurs fans that were in the arena last night had as much fun as you did. Good grief what a whine.
Look here, Kenny Powers. There are two things that piss me off. A mavs fan and a mavs fan with aids. Enjoy your last 6 months.
I'm a spus fan in mavs-ville. I went to the game because guess what, genius, the spurs get that money too. Its called revenue sharing, dumbass!
An in-game presentation is supposed to rev up the crowd and take advantage of home-court. Nothing wrong with that. The AAC is over the top loud that would rival a 747 engine. Its all overdone and the bang-to-hype ratio is blown completely out of porportion.
