Why would that be.
Gooden wasn't in the game when Oberto scored those points in game 4. Get a clue.
Why would that be.
oh dear god just give it up already.
I love how Monroe was right there head to head with him at the end of the interview... right there...
Good to see it official. Hopefully he plays like he wants a new contract.
Because he was too busy giving you a lame cop out?
Because he gave up those 2 points to Oberto in the first three quarters?
This is HUGE. All season long we've known the Spurs had little chance of another ring if they couldn't find someone to beef up their front-court. We were all trying to come up with some sort of trade package to get a big man, but there was no way to do it without giving up one of our Big Three. The trade deadline loomed...then passed....and we all felt a sense of disappointment, and maybe even doom.
But guess what? The FO did it!! They got us the big man we needed...and miraculously, they got him without having to give ANYTHING up. Nada. Zilch.
This, my fellow Spurs fans, is awesome. And it's more than any of us could have expected. Gooden doesn't guarantee us a championship. I know that. But we definitely just closed some distance on our most-hated enemies, the LA Fakers. F-ck yeah.
insult insult insult
have fun you guys can have the thread.
some would say we gave up future hall of famer pops olajuwon russel chamberlain bird jordan.
If the Spurs start playing defense again, and Gooden truly becomes a Spur (i.e., he drinks the kool-aid), then this is a great signing. Either way, the Spurs didn't lose depth to get him, so it's good.
Gooden chooses Spurs over Lakers
Express-News
Drew Gooden is the new big man who the Spurs hope will fortify their latest playoff run.
Gooden joined the Spurs after buying out his contract earlier this week in Sacramento.
Gooden arrived Thursday evening at the Spurs’ practice facility and met with reporters. The Spurs had been shopping for another frontcourt presence to challenge the bigger Los Angeles Lakers should the Western Conference’s top two teams meet up again in the playoffs.
“I got calls from (the Lakers) trying to get me,” said Gooden, the 6-foot-10 power forward who officially became a Spur when he signed a contract for a pro-rated portion of the $1.5 million that remained of the Spurs’ mid-level salary cap exception.
“It was a game of chess probably. (The Lakers) probably knew San Antonio was the team they had to get past in the West.”
That's funny! Some ST Posters already had Pops as an All-Star and the next great big man for the Spurs!!
I just finished hearing the press conference and he sounded ready to go and looking to find a home here in San Antonio.
Hopefully, he will be able to contribute and give TD some help with some post scoring and rebounding!!
Hmmm....I wonder how the Laker fans on ST will take that bit of news.
I could see the Lakers trying to get him..even if it was to keep him from the Spurs.
But, the first thing I heard Drew say in the press conference that RC called him as soon as he was going to be bought out by the Kings. That showed Drew he was needed instead of being a luxury for some other team.
Hmmm....that sounds good and he will be motivated a little bit more.

I'm not fully on the Gooden bandwagon but the fact that the Lakers wanted to keep him away from the Spurs is a good sign.
Oh and I'm glad that he said he's healthy. Can't wait to hopefully be proven dead wrong about him![]()
Yep it sure was!
I don't know why you say that because according to the Lakers trolls in this forum:
A) Bynum will be back soon, so the Lakers don't need another big.
B) The Lakers aren't worried about any team, including San Antonio. They're far superior to anybody else, and they should just hand Mr Larry to them right now.

Not an All-Star, but one of the best in Spurs history. Pops' jersey retirement ceremony is next Tuesday.![]()
The Spurs have just announced the retirement of Pops Mensah-Bonsu! He was the greatest Spur ever to come from the D-League!!
In two blow-out losses to Cleveland and Portland...he was able to show his incredible athleticism and superior dunking ability which had many Spurs fans excited for the first time that the FO got someone who can jump out of the gym and be on the late night ESPN Sportscenter Highlights!!!

And all of that from 2 dunks in scrub minutes.![]()
I have a hunch that playing next to Duncan will be a revelation for Gooden and that we'll see a player not seen before. Also, I think this will help Tim -- they may be able to feed of each other a bit like the old twin tower days. I have to believe that Gooden's defense will improve dramatically in the Spurs system with Duncan beside him.
Rebounding and lack of size worried me most about this team when playoff style basketball starts. No rebounds no rings, as Riley used to say. Now we can grind and pound the paint with the Lakers and dominate inside against everyone else in the west.
This may have been the perfect move that finally fell into the Spurs' lap. If so, it's about time after the bad luck with Splitter, Mahinmi, etc. This guy can be more than a role player.
