Just wanted to put this out for those who didn't get to read the SI article...my dad sent this to me via email...He explained it to me in the beginning, so that's what all the other stuff is about..

Sports Illustrated had a great article on our Spurs this week. For those of you who are not followers of Eastern culture "Tao" is a concept found in Taoism, Confucianism, and more generally in ancient Chinese philosophy. While the character itself translates as "way" "path" or "route" or sometimes more loosely as "doctrine" or "principle," it is used philosophically to signify the fundamental or true nature of the world. Or in the case of the article "Pop's way and the Spurs way" of doing things. That is what separates our Spurs from the rest of the league and why we have the winningest franchise over the last decade. Coach Pop is a renaissance man. He loves to motivate his team but not in the traditional way using quotes that are over used. At the beginning of the year he put this quote between Manu's and Tim's locker. It is from Jacob Riis, a 19th century social reformer. He also gave a framed copy to each of the Spur's team members in their home language.

Hmm now that you mention it, I think I heard malik talk about "keep hitting
that rock", right after he got traded so you are probably correct.
