utsa split a home and home with ut last season. ut won the first game in san antonio convincingly. but utsa went up to austin and dominated, embrassed the longhorns in front of their home crowd and the "hand shake" agreement they had continue the series this season and next season has magically disappeared.
UTSA powers past Texas, 7-1
AUSTIN — Sop re Ryan Proudfoot tossed his second consecutive complete game and seniors Zach Etheredge and Trent Lockwood and junior Michael Rockett all homered, as UTSA powered past Texas, 7-1, on Wednesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The victory was the eighth in the past nine game for the Roadrunners, who moved their record to 29-12 on the season. It also marked the first win against Texas since a 14-10 victory on April 18, 2006, at Wolff Stadium and the first at Disch-Falk since an 11-10 decision on Feb. 9, 1999. The Longhorns fell to 24-17 in dropping their fifth straight home game.
Offensively, UTSA pounded three UT pitchers for seven runs on 11 hits, including five for extra bases. In addition to the three long balls, junior Aaron Powell and sop re Tim Palinscar both doubled as part of 2-for-4 efforts at the plate.
Rockett set the tone for the evening, giving UTSA a quick 1-0 lead with a towering solo blast over the left field fence in the top of the first.
The Longhorns knotted the score in the bottom of the third, as Travis Tucker doubled off the top of the fence in left center with two outs to plate Kevin Keyes, who singled.
A pair of mammoth blasts keyed a five-run fourth inning for the Roadrunners. Palincsar got things going with a single up the middle, but was erased on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Rockett. Lockwood then took a 1-2 pitch deep over the green monster in center field to put UTSA back on top, 3-1. Etheredge followed back-to-back singles by junior Aaron Powell and freshman Tyler Carpenter with a first-pitch blast off the scoreboard in left center to extend the advantage to 6-1 and chase UT starter Riley Boenning from the mound.
UTSA added a run in the seventh, as Palinscar doubled off the fence in left field with two down to score freshman Ryan Hutson from first.
Meanwhile, Proudfoot kept the Longhorns at bay with the help of a solid defensive effort in the field, including a pair of nice catches by Powell in left field.
Boenning (2-1) was charged with the loss after allowing six earned runs on seven hits in three and one-third innings of work.
Lockwood’s home run was his 10th of the season and 24th of his two-year career, moving him into a tie for ninth and sixth place on the school’s single-season and career lists, respectively. Junior James Keithley saw his school-record 27-game hitting streak come to an end, marking just the third game this season that the Reagan High product did not record a base hit (Oral Roberts, Feb. 22; College of Charleston, March 8).
regarding the cws, utsa got robbed last year season...as far as why ut doesn't schedule utsa, u have to ask them. they had a handshake agreement to play a home and home series the next 2 seasons but it disappeared when utsa stomped texas in austin. i don't know why ut wouldn't want to play utsa, it would draw good crowds and it's just good baseball.
So your saying the UT higher ups somehow convinced the NCAA to not schedule UTSA against them because they split the series? man you really are re ed.
