If the Mavericks get the 8 seed, is there any way possible that they could put together one superhuman effort and knock the Lakers out of the playoffs?

Probably not, but I wish they would. It would make the road to the finals so much easier for the Spurs.

The Mavs on paper should get swept by the Lakers, their "superhuman" effort would be taking it to 6 games.

That would be the easiest sweep in NBA history. No game would be closer than 10 points. Average margin of victory would probably be 15+. If you want any chance at all for the Lakers to be taken out in the 1st round, you better hope the Blazers or Suns get the 8 seed.

Well, the Mavs fans have convinced me that Jason Kidd is still an excellent player, and as we all know he has quite the reputation as a defender. He can lock down Kobe, I'm sure. Dirk Nowitzki is unquestionably a better power forward than Pau Gasol. Bynum is here today, gone tomorrow - who knows if he'll even be available? The rest of the Lakers' supporting cast - Derek Fisher, a has-been, Luke Walton, a never-was, and all the rest of those scrubs - are no match for an All Star like Josh Howard.

The Mavericks would probably be the favorites in that series, not the underdogs. But we all know the Mavs' record at just going out and beating the teams they're supposed to beat, so I'd give even odds.

I doubt it would be this bad:

    LA 104 SA 90
    LA 88 SA 81
    LA 111 SA 72
    LA 111 SA 82

If we get the Lakers, we will probably receive a blowout, maybe the most impressive one in league history. We can't handle them, especially Kobe. Moreover, Stern can't stand Cuban, which is well known around the whole league, thus he would never allow the refs to favour us against them.

Why as a Spurs fan.....do you want someone else to do the work for the Spurs. In the playoffs, you are going to face good teams in order to win a championship.

The Spurs will have to face good compe ion and worrying about whether the Mavs can put together a superhuman effort against the Lakers (if they meet in the playoffs) is hopeful at best and naive at worst.

I want the Spurs and Lakers to both be healthy and ready to go if they meet in the WCF. Then...we can see whose team is better. No wishing for help from any other team!!

I want to see a Spurs Laker WCF......since I know the Suns won't be in it, I'd much rather see a good series w/ by far the two best teams then see one of the two teams get knocked out in some fluke series.

Both teams healthy, only theoretically. It can happen if the Lakers have injuries, like, say, Gasol or Bynum out.

It could be possible, if Jackson pulled a Avery and started Walton at center against an 8th seed.

Only way that would happen is if Kobe gets injured and isn't available for the playoffs.
