This has happened before and the dude can't even fight in Japan anymore.
I heard about that, but thought it was a rumor. Is it official?

    whatever....

Former UFC light heavyweight champion o Ortiz was in Columbus, Ohio this weekend during UFC 96. Although he would not give out many details regarding his next fight, Ortiz did confirm, "I'm fighting in August!" One can assume that he may be referring to a possible fight on Affliction's next event, which was also rumored to take place in August...

Well...nothing was ever made public but supposedly Dream won't touch him now and that guy from the CSAC says he won't ever be allowed to fight in the US again so I guess so.

Aleks is a borderline elite fighter...shame really..

Fightlinker is wringing his hands over the lack of outrage that a presumably Hepa is infected Aleksander Emelianenko is still fighting and no one in the MMA media is complaining:

You know the dude’s got a serious issue when even Japan says “You’re not allowed to fight.” So why is a guy who’s basically the Tommy Morrison of MMA getting a free pass from the MMA media? Is it because he’s Fedor’s little brother? Or do we just care so little about the safety of his opponents?

There’s all sorts of signs pointing towards Aleks having hepa is. If he’s still FIGHTING, that’s a health risk to everyone he fights. You’d think there should be some responsible journalistic outlet raising some questions about the whole situation instead of licking it’s chops in eager anticipation of Aleks’ next fight. Hey, I used to be down with the A to the E too, but this is ing nuts. The guy might have a life threatening disease and he’s fighting in MMA

I would honestly not put Ortiz that much of a favorite over Soku. I think it would be a close decision with not very much action.

I agree that they are kinda even but this fight doesn't get out of the second.

Its so hard to predict since we have NO idea what to expect out of o with that nasty surgery but I still believe that rust kills fighters for a few fights.

As long as you're not named Fedya.

Usually I avoid the Sherdog forums, but there's a thread today asking people to list their "MMA Confessions". My favorite two so far:

"I think Ken Shamrock should be allowed to bring his walker into the ring and hit people with it to even the match."

"I believe BJ Penn will eventually be crushed to death by his own ego."

Credit for both go to UnderLand

    From mmajunkie:

While not yet officially announced by the organization, the live finale for "The Ultimate Fighter 9" has added a lightweight showdown between former "TUF" champions Nate Diaz (10-3 MMA, 5-1 UFC) and Joe Stevenson (29-10 MMA, 6-4 UFC).

MMAMadness first reported the that the pair had verbally agreed to the contest, and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has since learned from sources close to the bout that contracts for the fight have been signed.

The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale is scheduled for June 20 at the Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

Stevenson has endured a tough 1-3 stretch while facing some of the lightweight division's top talent. The winner of "The Ultimate Fighter 2," Stevenson was submitted by current UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn in January 2008 and again by current no. 1 contender Kenny Florian in November 2008.

Stevenson last fought in a unanimous decision loss to Diego Sanchez in the "TUF 1" champion's first bout at 155 pounds.

Diaz will also be looking to bounce back from a loss. The "TUF 5" winner dropped a split decision to Clay Guida at UFC 94 in January. Prior to the defeat, Diaz had won five straight bouts for the organization, including four by submission.

With the addition to the card, the TUF 9 Finale now includes:

Lightweight finalist No. 1 vs. No. 2
Welterweight finalist No. 1 vs. No. 2
    Clay Guida vs. Diego Sanchez
    Nate Diaz vs. Joe Stevenson
    John Howard vs. Anthony Johnson

    Mask (Tapout) killed?

It appears he may have died in this car accident. Sources on the UG say they've confirmed Mask's death here and here. More to come.

    From the LA Times:

A bizarre car crash in Newport Beach involving two luxury cars early this morning left one person dead, a second injured, a third arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter and a fourth person was detained by police long enough to sober up.

A Newport Beach Police Department officer allegedly witnessed the wreck and saw a red Ferrari and a white Porsche "spinning out of control" on Jamboree Road between Bison Avenue and East Bluff Drive at 12:57 a.m., Newport Beach Lt. Craig Fox said. The Ferrari "hit the curb and then collided with a pole." The Porsche came to a stop at the scene for a few seconds and then sped away, Fox said.

"It was terrible. It was extensive damage to the vehicle," Fox said, adding that the Ferrari appeared to have split in half.

An unidentified man in the Ferrari was pronounced dead. A woman in the car was ejected during the accident and taken to a hospital, where she was in stable condition, Fox said. He said police have not yet determined which one was driving and which one was the passenger.

UPDATE: Tracy Lee of CombatLifestyle.com is saying Dan, also known as "Punkass", sent her a text message that confirms Mask did, in fact, pass away as a result of this car accident.

Its a image thing that only people who live & sell products in California will ever understand I guess. Think Affliction...which I don't get either.

MMA was born & raised in California for the most part with the IFC which took the place of the UFC when it pretty much got banned.

    ^ explanation = nuts .

They created the outfits and wacky persona's in the 90's when they were selling shirts and bumper stickers out of the truck of a car at fights on Indian reservations (back when few gave a about MMA) in order to get attention and make people remember them and the Tapout name. It worked, and they continued doing it...

I never cared for Tapout. I always thought they put up a rather clownish image, not the way diehard mma fans wanted their sport to be portrayed, but they were a big part of mma and did their best to promote it when few others cared. And by all accounts, Mask was a really nice, all-around good guy. Worth mourning for, even if he did look like an idiot sometimes
