patriots are stackin their lineup this offseason
Yeah, great move. He is a top 15 Corner.
yeah! Wheatly/Bodden are going to be bright spots in our secondary. Im thrilled they are improving on the defensive side. The D will be young, hungry and rejuvinated! Im thrilled with this offseason and we still have the rest of free agency plus the draft!
If Wheatley pans out like I think he will, then we put Springs in Sanders' spot at safety, we'll have a damn good secondary. Plus Brandon Meriweather is already great, but he is on the verge of breaking out huge. Next Ed Reed huge.
Also, there's a lot of Jason Taylor talk, which has me worried. The guy obviously doesn't give a about football anymore, he's old, he's injury prone, and he thinks he can still command a high salary.
If they get him on the cheap as a pass rush specialist........meh. Anything more than that and I'd hate bringing him on board. I'd much rather they pursue Julius Peppers.
I still think their defense is nothing to gloat about, and the Pats fans here MASSIVELY overrate a lot of their players, but their offense will be very tough to stop. They should at least get to the AFC championship game, but honestly, there is no reason to believe(barring injuries) that the Patriots couldn't win it all. They still have Brady, Moss, and Bellicheat.
The D showed some strides last year. We have infiltrated youth in the linebacking and secondary positions plus we still have the remainder of free agency and the draft. I dont think this will be the best d ever in nfl history but under Belichick, I have all the confidence the D could be pretty damn good as a top 5-10 overall D. The Pats have also done a great job with the draft.
lol raiders
Sanders/Hobbs are liabilities in our secondary. I'd like to see them be backups at best. Springs would do fairly well as a saftey. Remember we still have the rest of free agency plus the draft. And in your next post...no thank you to Jason Taylor unless it is for the minimum and a backup. I could live with that but anything more...no thanks.
Galloway finds home in New England
By Len Pasquarelli
Choosing the sales pitch from Bill Belichick over that of Mike Tomlin, free agent wide receiver Joey Galloway has agreed to a one-year contract with the New England Patriots.
Financial details of the deal, confirmed by sources close to the player, were not yet available.
Despite being 37 years old and coming off an injury-shortened 2008 season, Galloway was seen by the Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers as still having the ability to stretch a secondary deep. Both franchises recruited Galloway on the premise that they will be Super Bowl contenders in 2009 and that he will play a key role in the offense as the No. 3 wide receiver.
Galloway, who was releasaed by Tampa Bay earlier in free agency, looks to continue the long tradition of aging veterans signing in New England and resurrecting their careers as role players. Galloway visited with Patriots coaches and officials recently. He figures to be no better than the Patriots' No.3 wide receiver behind Randy Moss and Wes Welker.
Although he has played 14 NFL seasons, Galloway remains one of the league's fastest players and is capable of going deep.
For his career, Galloway has 682 catches for 10,710 yards and 77 touchdowns. He has caught 60 or more passes in six seasons. Last season, however, a foot injury limited Galloway to nine games and only four starts. He had 13 catches for 138 yards and failed to score a touchdown. This was his fewest receptions since 2000, when he played in only one game because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
The former Ohio State star was a first-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 1995. He stayed with the Seahawks through the 1999 season, and then was traded to Dallas in 2000.
In addition to the Seahawks, he has played for the Dallas Cowboys (2000-03) and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2004-08). Galloway was one of several prominent players released by the Bucs at the outset of free agency.
Although he has never been to a Pro Bowl game, Galloway has been a four-time alternate.

I like Galloway, but he's basically a small, far less talented Moss. We didn't need another deep threat, we needed an intermediate guy to go over the middle. We've got Moss & Welker for the deep balls & the short stuff. Torry Holt would have been perfect but I doubt they're going after him.
