i believe come playoff time, he will start depending on the matchups.
Agreed...or he will get most of the bench minutes. I still think Bonner can be useful against certain teams but against the Lakers his is a huge liability. I think Gooden and Thomas can carry us through a series with the Lakers.

Bonner always confirms that he sucks playing against the Lakers. Just think it's a horrible match up for him. I liked when Gooden fought for that ball and kept it in bounce and in play for us. Why didn't Pop let him play more in the second half? Do you think he just really didn't want to show Phil his hand too much?

Gooden is going to be the difference for us come playoff time
Although I still like what Matt Bonner brings to the team 3 point wise, switching them out will make the less experienced teams make many mistakes.

    he's still >>>>>>>>> Bonner
Much. Everyone's swinging on Bonner's nuts because of his three point shooting. His lack of rebounding and defense more than offset anything positive he might bring to the table offensively.

The last two games are a trend that will go on into the playoffs I think. Start Bonner, and give a quick hook if he's getting owned by the opponent. Gooden gives you that added flexibility.

Sorry to temper the excitement, but Gooden looked pretty lost on offense. I know it's goign to take time for him to learn the sets, but I think it will be hard for him to play extended minutes if he doesn't know where to be on the court.

Having said that, his play in limited minutes was promising. He was very active, showed his athleticism, and his soft touch around the basket. Not a bad start, but he DEFINITELY needs more practice time before he gets major minutes.

AFBlue...you're saying he was lost on offense, as if you were surprised that a player playing his 1st ever game with the Spurs wouldn't be completely into the offense..what did you dislike anyways? I'm curious..

I mean LOST....as in, he had no idea where to be on the court. He didn't understand the sets that were being run and was out of position pretty much every time down the court.

The problem with that is it disrupts floor spacing, which is HUGE for the Spurs. He needs to know where his spot is when TP and TD play the two-man game and he needs to figure out how to play the two-man game w/ TP himself.

I'm not surprised that he doesn't know anything....but what I'm saying is that he's not ready for major minutes.

He played 3 minutes. The spacing wasn't even bad when he was out there.

Basically I liked what I saw of him, in his limited minutes. I really don't know what Pop is saving him for. He could've played more minutes than he did - especially considering how badly the Spurs were getting their asses waxed on the glass. He's still a bit lost - but that's to be expected for now. I like the energy he brought.

I can think of at least two possessions....

One where he misplayed the pick-and-roll of Parker and another where he ended up 2ft from Duncan in the post (on the same side) as Duncan made his move.

I'm liking the thought that when Gooden works more into the rotation he'll be a force.

I'm on the Start Gooden bandwagon.
Me too. Especially to match-up with LA and DAL if we play them.

I was so psyched to see Gooden come into the game....and he did NOT disappoint. He immediately injected energy and strength into the Spurs. , he grabbed 4 boards in 3 and a half minutes and swished the one shot he took. 4 boards in less than 4 minutes is a VERY good sign. (Bonner didn't get a single rebound in over 12 minutes!).

I know it's way too early to say anything, and it was only a hint, but I truly believe is going to happily surprise a lot of Spurs fans.

If Pop throws him out there in crunch time and we lose and he screws up because he doesn't know where to be on the court then it would be a bigger step back then just losing a game, at least psychologically. For once, I see Pop's patience in holding a player back, at least for this game and at this point in the game.

However, he needs to get minutes soon. Pop is going to have to throw him out there as soon as he is healthy. There's not time to wait. If not, what's the point of having him? But that 's a typical question for Spurs fans.

Gooden looked fresh, relaxed, confident. We need to get him into the rotation. I think his rebounding will make us a much better team.
