It's not just his mobility. Duncan is having trouble catching passes too!

Duncan started off strong but he probably sat too long, he'll warm up again.

I don't totally agree. He was a good pickup, no question, but what we really lack is another weakside shotblocker, which is NOT Gooden.

We aren't going to beat the Lakers with offence, it's got to be D, and we still haven't solved that problem.
true, another shotblocker would be great. but i think we need a athletic/rebounding big more than pure shotblocking.

gooden is a good rebounder who matched up better with odom than any of our other bigs.

his defense hasnt been as bad as his reputation says he is

Wonder if TD having knee pads are hindering his play. Seems like using knee pads would take some adjustment.

I haven't seen anything bad yet though, which is good..he didn't contest Lowry's shot on the pick and roll, but I'm not sure if the strategy wasn't to let Lowry take the shot instead of driving since he's a quick player with good driving skills..

where have you been disappointed with his D?..

the blocking foul against him was bad perimeter D, and the shot he allowed under the basket was also bad perimeter D..he isn't a shot blocker and he isn't going to be a GOOD defender, but he just has to be average..

we've managed to have the 4th best D in the NBA, despite having Mason and Bonner starting, so I think we'll manage..it's a proven system..
Giving up a baseline layup to Landry was a bad sign.

I'm pointing it out because what we really needed was a backup weakside shotblocker, and instead we got a post player. Good acquisition given what was available, but didn't really fill our need.

Don't get me wrong, I like Gooden coming in, but I'm worried that his D could be an Achilles' Heel because he's not an average defender, he's below average. Hopefully the system will cover for him, and Pop will be smart about who he puts him on the court against.

If Tim is like this going into the playoffs we will have trouble getting out of the second round.

True, we do need rebounding and mobility as well and he gives us that, but we'll have to cover his D because he is a poor defender. I've watched a lot of Gooden over the years, and he's just a shade better than bad on that end. Maybe our system will improve his D, can only hope.

I'm in the minority, but I'm not that concerned about Timmy..this looks like 2005-2006 Duncan with PF, where he struggled in the regular season, and everybody thought he was done..then the playoffs came, and he was putting up 33 and 11 averages vs. Dallas in the semis..

definitely, but obviously Gooden was the best option at the time..we would all have loved getting someone like Camby, but it's not so easy, as you know..

I have to agree with the moron announcers that TP flopped on that one.

Only thing they've gotten right so far.
