It's not a stone-cold lock that Dr. Buss would match anyways. He is not among the most richest of NBA owners. His largest source of income is derived from the Lakers, he doesn't have gobs of cash from a dot-com past like Cuban, or is married to a member of the Wal-Mart family like Stan Kroenke of Denver, or own a gambling empire like the Maloofs, or a Shopping Mall empire like the Simons. He's just good ol' Jerry who parties with girls younger than Jeanie and tries to drive through San Diego County while intoxicated.

So again...when it gets down to it, Kobe will not and has not indicated that he will take a pay cut to make it easier for the Lakers to make signings. Both Odom and Ariza can leave unless they get what they want, and Dr. Buss has only shown a willingness to pay the luxury-tax in an effort to win. If they can't this year, is he willing to pay it again?

    Again...not a stone-cold lock.

Ariza would be great on SA but I think either LA will make sure he stays there or someone else will pay more than we can.

SF is exactly where we need help and Ariza would be perfect, but I think we'll be looking to acquire via trade (I've heard talk about Richard Jefferson) rather than free agency.

That being said, this offseason will be interesting because so many teams are geared up for next offseason and with the economy being so bad, there could be some bargains to be had. Who knows. It should be interesting, and I just hope we can get some SF help in the end.

No way. We don't need to be getting older. Plus 'Sheed is something of a head case and though I think he wouldn't present any problems in that department with SA, he's too old and I don't think we'll need the kind of help he can provide. Our big man roster going into camp will be something like: TD-KT-Bonner-Mahinmi-FA. I think the free agent will be someone younger like Pops or maybe Gooden if he does well with us.

I like Sheed, but he's old and slipping. Unless he's willing to take a lot less money, I would rather we go elsewhere.

We need to spend our money/trade capital on a small forward rather than an aging big man.

no insecurity.... just trying to rub in it while the spurs search through free agency when they get eliminated
You're trying to rub "in it". You are insecure. Besides, we're so smart we'll figure away to make it work.

Never heard of them, but the King Taco on Cesar Chavez is the , though it's hard not to go couple of blocks over to El Tepeyac instead when I'm in the area.
I don't know why people love El Tepeyac. I know the manuels special is huge but it's not all that. To be honest San Diego has much better Mexican food. But the King Taco on 3rd has all the hunnies on friday and saturday night after the club.

26 points 3 steals today against the Mavs. The Spurs wish they had a player like Ariza. Bowen can't even sniff Ariza's jockstrap at this point.

Ariza is finally starting now like he should have been the entire season. Ariza will be getting more, consistent minutes which means more production.

Regardless, Ariza's defense has been extremely solid the entire year.

Buss is on record as an owner who doesn't mind exceeding salary cap and incurring luxury taxes in order to field a championship team. By moving Vlad Rad he's already clearing the way for the Fakers to keep Ariza. Look for them to lock him up over the summer.

Lakers have too many offensive players and not enough defensive players. Only Ariza/Odom/Kobe/Bynum are good defenders.

No way the Lakers are letting Ariza walk this summer.

I don't think Odom's going anywhere either but his future's a bit shakier (than Ariza) with the Lakers because of his $11 million salary.

But Odom's said he'd take a paycut to stay with the Lakers.

If he was still insisting on $11 million, Odom would be gone. But at around $8 million a year over 3-4 years, he's a steal.

I dunno. He has never been thrilled with the notion of coming off the bench and isn't that where he'll be next year assuming Gasol and Bynum are healthy? I'm not sure he'll take both a pay cut and a bench role.

Lakers payroll for 2009-2010 stands at $74 million pre-signing of either Ariza or Odom and for 2010-2011 $67 million without Fisher or anything else you might want to call a PG.

So Buss is going to carry a payroll of about $90 million and pay $25 million in luxury tax? Riiighhtt.

Oh, to be sure, Odom hates coming off the bench. But he loves LA more and is looking for stability & winning.

After years of losing on the Clippers & Heat while being paid big bucks, he just wants to chill "stick his feet in the sandy beaches" and win.

Buss has to suck it up in 2009/2010 season and pay the mega-payroll. If the Lakers win a le this year, he'll do it.

But in 2010/2011 they can get rid of Morrison's $7 million a year and Fish's $5 million for a more reasonable payroll. Of course the Lakers have been shopping Luke's $5 million but strangely, there aren't any takers

So it's one heavy year then it's fine after that, Buss would have to be really short-sighted and cheap to not pay up this year.

With the salary cap going down, do you really think they'll be able to pay Ariza and Odom?

They have the money, it's a matter of choice. And if the Lakers win it all this year, they'll pay. It's only really heavy for 1 year.

Now if the Lakers don't win a ring, I expect Lamar to be gone over the summer.

Hopefully a lot of those Hollywood s were heavily invested with Madoff and Buss's season ticket sales go in the crapper.

The Lakers are certainly lucky that they play in Hollywood/LA, they're still #3 behind Celtics & Knicks in profitability.

I'm the first to admit alot of the Lakers success comes from their being in LA...lots of expectations and the money to go with it.

The amazing thing about the Spurs is that they've won 4 rings in the last 10 years with a shoestring budget.
