The main problem with him this season despite usually consistent offensive production is his lack of effort on D, boxing out and being content to be contained by double teams.

He and JET are the only source of offense for the Mavs and they are both jumpshooters that can be contained since no one else can create a shot to save their lives.

And Dirk seems to have mediocre shooting nights more often than before. But Cuban and Donnie's solution has been to only make the offensive load on him heavier than before. We love our team!
Yeah... when you've been where Nowitzki has been, it's kinda hard to muster the energy to play consistent defense on a team that has no shot to win it all.

Been to the Finals, should've won if not for BS whistles, but the whistles happened.

Won an MVP, but same year as the Warriors heartbreak.

Now a mediocre supporting cast, it saps your energy bro.

As for mediocre shooting nights. I feel Dirk's shooting is somewhat dependent on the talent around him. This is his worst shooting year since the '03-'04 season, and ironically, that's probably the next worst team (besides this one) for the Mavs in the past 7-8 years.

I'm not making excuses, it just is what it is.

Lakers doing good against the the Texas trio. 8-1 I believe, not bad considering those are playoff teams.

Great comeback by the Lakers. If it wasn't for Jason 'Waynehead' Terry's hot shooting it would've been a rout. Other than the Gasol trade the one for Ariza was just as great. His offensive is much improved and a far cry from what it was when he came into the league.

stfu. Donnie is right. We love Donnie! We love the Mavs!

Coming back from a 15 point lead against the mighty lineup of Luke Walton and Vuja ? Hand over the ring to the Mavs right now.

Even better than that, the Lakers vs top 3 teams (Cavs/Celtics/Spurs) are 6-1 with the one loss at San Antonio by 1 point.

There's a huge difference between expecting a loss and accepting a loss. And an even bigger difference between that and pulling out the pom-poms to celebrate a loss.

lol, as if there's such a thing as an unacceptable loss with THIS particular roster?

Considering you had us losing this game by 20, had us losing to the Blazers, had us losing to the Suns (by 40 :-P), you should just "accept" this 2-2 road trip.

Sorry, but whining about every single thing that's wrong with the mavs on a Spurs board doesn't make you more of a Mavs fan than anyone else.

We can whine all we want when we have to watch a lineup of Erika, JJ barea, Breath, Antoine Wright, and an undersized PF at C every night. Not to mention JKidd who can't finish a layup for . And then there's Smokey who's still on the team, cruising along with "injuries" every other game.

Dallas will keep it close for 3 quarters, then when it's time to get serious, the Lakers will go on their usual 15-0 run and win by 20.
close but Lakers won by 7

You can bring up the role players all you want but the NBA comes down to your core. Dirk/Terry/Kidd/Howard is good but not good enough and so the Mavs are good but not good enough.

I'd be willing to bet if you swap Dirk with Lebron the Mavs are elite and the Cavs are mediocre.

It comes down to your superstar, we probably can't win it all with Dirk. If you have a championship or bust mentality, you should trade Dirk right now and tank until you find the next superstar, but that could take 10-15 years.

That's simply not true. That very core already rightfully won us a championship, or got us to the finals at the very least (4 rings, got). It's the role players that have changed since 2006, not so much the core. We miss Marquis, 6th man Stackhouse, glue guys like griffin, diop (before he sucked ass this year), energy guys like Armstrong etc. Even Van Horn would look like a blessing coming off the bench just to spot up for 3's when comparing him to the likes of Breath, Matt Carrol, and Antoine Wright.

Not to mention, I think Rawle Marshall >> Antoine Wright who is starting to look like he's just not going to work out. Although I tried not to be too hard on Wright in the past, it's quickly becoming apparent that he sucks. Just as Barrea's first few games turned out to be fool's gold. Armstrong/Anthony Johnson>>>Barrea. The Mavs are just THAT desperate at the 2. We're just not very deep

Good game today. Great run by the Mavs to sieze the lead, but the Lakers were able to shake it off and counter with the 12-0 run. Kobe with another huge jumper down the stretch and Ariza was more than the usual X-factor, with 25 big points. Gasol was 12-13 from the field, and the only thing wrong with that is he got only 13 shots instead of 26. That's 5 of the last 6 and most impressively, we completed the Texas Three-Step undefeated and big road wins at Houston and San Antonio. It's a big deal because we go home for two and then it's 7 straight on the east roadie.

Times have changed. The West is much stronger and Dirk, Howard, and Terry aren't as good.

We'd have 4-5 more wins this year if we had a 90/50/40 Dirk or a JET shooting 42-43% from behind the arc, or Howard being healthy, drawing charges, playing D, grabbing rebounds, bringing energy instead of stagnation, and not settling for stepback jumpers. He also shot 40% from behind the arc in 2006 and 38% in 2007 .

Ohhh it'd be nice if we didn't forget how to play defense and rebound as well. I don't see why if you still have 4 of your top 6 guys from 2 years ago you go from 5th in D to 15th.

Probably? The Mavs couldn't win it when they were in the Finals. They couldn't win it when they had the best record in the league. They have barely been making it to the finals since then. Open your eyes. The window of the championship has closed for the Mavs. They will be out of the First Round (again) this year and then re-building will start next season. They really shouldn't have traded for an aging Kidd but they panicked, wanting to win now and got old quick. Face it. It's Laker time again.

Screwed by refs in 2006 though.

As for it being the Lakers time, let them win a le first before jumping to such conclusions. They're probably gonna win the West but be slayed by the Cavs or Celtics.

Be quiet. Don't you know Dirk own's Pau? LMAO. The Lakers needed challenge so they let the Mavs regain the lead. IMO, that hurts more than a blowout because the Mavs played their hearts out, took a 6-point lead after being down by 15 points and trailing all game only to be reminded once again of one fact: They are not good enough. Once the Lakers got serious, it was over.

    But don't tell Dirk4MVP.
