They're still 5th in the league. Just not their usual top 1/2.
Remember when they could actually play defense and get stops in the 4th? Haha Spurs.

They're still 5th in the league. Just not their usual top 1/2.
Been nine years since the Lakers could say the same.
Lakers are 3rd in defensive efficiency by a large margin. Spurs are barely holding on to that 6th spot. Spurs defense has pretty much sucked donkey balls the entire season.
You're talking about the ESPN one that doesn't factor in offensive rebounds.....the basketball reference one is more accurate and it has the Spurs at 5th and LA at 7th.
Actually even the ESPN defensive efficiency has SA ahead of LA.....
no it's not.
The Lakers are Tough Lock Down defenders. Especially that guy named Pau Gasol, his defense is suffocating...lol
No, opponent FG% is a much more telling stat. Lakers have the edge in that yet again.
Point differential is what matters most.
I look at point differential.
lakers allow a lot of assists too. one of the worst in the league in that department. that shows that they are not a very smart defense, and their defense comes more from their high-powered offense forcing bad opponents into more bad shots, like the suns used to do.
lakers defense is pretty crappy actually. other than kobe, and maybe fisher, there is no one that you can consistently rely on for defense. not even bynum, as he is very easy to fool with a little ball movement.
defensive rebounding % is also important, but I agree opposing PPG is not a very important stat because it's just as much about tempo as it is about defense.
Even if this were true, I'm not sure how this = sucking donkey balls. You fail.
Wrong, on both counts.
Ding, Ding........ we have a winner. FG% is our runner-up. Couple them, and you've got a pretty good indication of who has the best chance of winnig it all.
21 Palins versus BenJarvisOt oTron. It's a re -off!
Sorry but Opp FG % > Opp PPG. Us Spurs fans should know this more than any other fan.
The Spurs are just finding more balance...last year the main complaint was stagnant offense. We fixed that. If you're more offense-oriented, defense will go down a little.
Still 3rd in the league in opponents PPG allowed and 9th in opponents FG%.
4 rings, got!!!!
looks like jeff just jumped in. all we need is beefanus, and we got a world record for re s arguing at once.
yah its pretty sad that the spurs have yet to get hot this year![]()
Points per possession is the most meaningful measure of both offensive and defensive efficiency.
They will be the best defensive team come playoff time
Also, you have to realize that Manu, one of our best defensive players, has missed tons of games, and that Pop has been limiting Bowen's minutes
Exactly, and by that measure the Spurs have slipped quite a bit since 2007, while the Lakers have made up a lot of ground since the same time - and the Lakers still aren't as good as the Spurs. But not since the 1999-2000 season have the Lakers been a team you could count on to repeatedly "get stops in the 4th", while the Spurs had been doing it for the better part of a decade prior to their recent dropoff.
anybody remember this gem???
