kidd solidified his hall of fame credentials in 2000-2004, that was his prime. he was pretty amazing back then. lakers obviously believed kidd fit in the triangle offense because they wouldn't have pushed for a trade twice, once in 2000 and again in 2007 if they did not believe in kidd.

Rocket fans just died a little inside.
Naw, not really. Most real rocket fans have known about this for a while now. But yeah, it coulda/woulda been the greatest team of all time.

The 1984 trade. You combine Drexler, Jordan and Hakeem. I do not even want to know why the Blazers even thought about it, it just did not make sense on hindsight. Ralph Sampson was ruined by injuries.
But at that time he was a bonafide bigman in the era of bigmen. Him and Hakeem beat the showtime lakers and lost to 1 of the greatest Boston/NBA teams of all time. His injuries came later.

...hindsight is 20/20. don't forget sampson was the only 3 time ncaa POY and had a very nice rookie campaign. so basically for them it would have been trading a great guard for a dominant big man. also drexler hadn't fully showcased his nba skills yet.

let's not forget that rockets team lead by sampson and dream was potentially a dynasty in itself if it wasn't wrecked by injuries and drugs. remember they smoked the lakers in dream's 2nd year to get to the finals?

Just like the '81 Rockets, right? Sometimes good teams just take a all over themselves in a playoff series. No way that team beats the Lakers in '87 or '88.

Why not, if they don't lose Samspon to injury (only started 32 games in 87) or their starting PG (Lucas) to drugs. The Rockets beat the Lakers 4-1 in 86 and only one of those wins was close.

If anyone should know how deadly a twin towers combo can be, it should be a Spurs fan. :-)

But in hindsight, I don't regret not making that trade. I do get sad thinking of what could have been if Sampson never got hurt and he and Hakeem playing basically their entire careers together....

You guys left out Sean Marks for Dwayne Wade which the Hornets turned down right before the deadline.

I'm crying on the inside right now. We would have had 10 championships at least.

Don't. Because that was not the offer. I remember reading in this book that the offer was Ralph Sampson for the #3 pick overall straight up. No Portland. No Drexler involved. Still Hakeem and Jordan not a bad combo.
