What were some big trades in NBA History that almost went down but didn't happen?

    Here were a few:

In 2005 their was a rumor of the Pistons trading Ben Wallace and Rasheed Wallace and a pick for Kevin Garnett.

The Bulls were going to trade Scottie Pippen for Tracy McGrady back in 1997 but MJ threatened to retire if they did it.

In 1999 the Bulls were going to trade Pippen for Eddie Jones and Elden Campbell.

1984: Ralph Sampson for Clyde Drexler and the second overall pick. (2nd overall pick would have been Jordan as the Rockets would have taken Jordan considering they selected Hakeem 1st)

The Magic offered Tracy McGrady to Phoenix for Shawn Marion and Joe Johnson

Suns offered Marion and Kidd in 2000 for Kobe Bryant

Bulls offered Chandler, Deng and #2 for Garnett

Lakers in 2007 were going to trade Andrew Bynum or Jason Kidd

And the 2nd part of that story is allegedly Kobe was going to sign with the Suns to create the Kobe-Tmac-Amare big three. I'm not sure how true that was, IMO Kobe always knew he was going back to the Lakers.

In 2008, the Lakers wanted Pau Gasol from the Grizz. Trouble was, tThe Grizz wanted actual basketball players in exchange for Pau Gasol.

Mr. Stern intervened, and the Grizz ended up saying, "Okay, we'll just take Kwame Brown and change for our franchise player."

If that deal goes down, the rockets GM would have been the goat.

Phil Jackson said in his book Jerry Buss was the one reason the Bryant trade didn't happen, he and Jerry West were both in favor of it. It would have indeed been interesting.

Nothing against Kobe, but it would have made LA a better team. Idk about what it does for the Suns.

For sure, they'd still have what was the league's most dominant player at the time. 2000-2002 Kobe was a lot dumber and worse than 2007-2009 Kobe, and Kidd was arguably the best PG in the NBA at the time who made everyone on his team better. I still hold a grudge against Colangelo for trading him for Starbury.

Plus, the Laker's achilles heel at the time, defending the pick and roll, all the sudden is a strength with Marion and Kidd. Marion and Shaq would play extremely well together.

Quite possibly the dumbest sports take I've ever read.

The Lakers would not have won 3 in a row with Jason Kidd, WHO CANNOT SHOOT THE BASKETBALL WHICH IS VERY IMPORTANT IN THE TRIANGLE OFFENSE, and Shawn Marion, WHO IS A STUPID PLAYER THAT WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO GRASP THE INTRICACIES OF THE TRIANGLE.

The 1984 trade. You combine Drexler, Jordan and Hakeem. I do not even want to know why the Blazers even thought about it, it just did not make sense on hindsight. Ralph Sampson was ruined by injuries.

Phil Jackson didn't seem to think so, and I think it's safe to say he knows more about the triangle offense than you do.

And btw DrHouse, I'm trying to diss Kobe or anything, they would undoubtedly be a better offensive team with Kobe instead of Marion and Kidd, but their defense would more than make up for that.

This is where Kobe's All-NBA 1st team defense level of D gets underated.

I agree, cause back then he really was a first team defender, but Marion's defense is extremely underrated.

The Lakers may have been solid on D with Kidd/Marion but on O they would struggle bigtime in a 7 game series. Kidd/Marion are not half court players nor can really create their own shots. As great as Shaq is, it wouldnt be enough offensively. The Lakers would have been a much easier team to defend. No way we 3 peat let alone win 1 championship with that roster.

I think you're also forgetting how good Kidd was back then, he was all NBA first team in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004.

Kidd/Marion were never great scorers/half court players offensively.Who would be the #2 guy? With that roster you would just need to force the Lakers to play a halfcourt game and you have them beat. You need both O and D to win in this league.

Marion I agree with, he has always been a horrible half court scorer.

Maybe it would hurt them, but the rest of the league was so weak from 2000-2002 that I don't see it stopping them from 3-peating. Shaq was that dominant back then.

I agree on the 2nd one. The 1st one, not so much.
