    When is the season finale?

How many seasons are left? is it next year and then a year after that? Or is it just next year?

Just next year, IIRC. This is season 5, it ends after season 6.

there's so much questions unanswered, i don't know how they will answer all of them with only 1 season left,; and the last season will only have 16 episodes (like this one).

Easy -- a reunion show with the entire cast, even those that didn't last on the island, at which point all the fans' questions will be answered, like on VH1

I think Widmore and Linus are battling for control of the island. Linus is answering to someone who wants to protect the island and keep it from being used in nefarious ways. Linus himself is empty inside and just does whatever it takes. Widmore wants to use the island to increase his own wealth and power. He has used what knowledge he has already to build tremendous wealth.

The history of the island is very old. Humans have stumbled upon it and known its unique properties for a very long time. Characters in the show are wrapped up in this history not just in the 2000's or the 1970's, but from the very beginning.

Events have played out such that one party or the other wins control of the island (probably Ben's side), but the island's properties make Widmore think it is possible to change the outcome by changing the past. But, everything he does to try to change the past ends up causing the present as he knows it.

Yet someone knows, at least in theory, that under the right cir stances (something to do with electromagnetism), it is possible to decouple from this deterministic loop and change the past. This is dangerous and unpredictable, and the universe will try to course-correct to prevent paradox. But nobody knows how to make it happen. Dharma tries... but ends up causing an Incident.

Events unfold such that Desmond becomes uncoupled from determinism. He is "special." He can go back in time and change the past. This makes him both powerful and dangerous. His consciousness goes back to when he broke up with Penny, and he actually would have been able to make a different decision... and Ms. Hawking has to be there to intervene. She has to convince him to stick to the original timeline. But there is a residue, a blip -- a single photo of Desmond and Penny now appears in two places, both in Penny's and in Desmond's possession.

Desmond is able to tweak Fate... but the universe tries to course-correct. Charlie has to die, but Desmond is able to save him long enough that he completes a task he would not otherwise do -- i.e., turn off the jamming device. That puts in motion events that create something that was not supposed to happen, i.e. six survivors getting off the island. Alex was not supposed to die. Since the six are supposed to be present to act out events which happened 30 years ago, this creates a mad rush to find a way to get them back.

While the flashes were going on, Faraday gets a hold of Desmond in the hatch. He knows Desmond is special. Desmond's memory is changed, and at the appointed time he remembers. He tracks down Faraday's mother, and seemingly nothing happens, but the actions he has yet to take loom large over the final outcome.

The universe's ability to course-correct is being put to the test. All of a sudden the number 3 is becoming important. It was not one of the numbers. It's Ajira Flight 316, not 416. Originally Dharmaville was fixed up and occupied by the Others. Locke destroyed the dock when he blew up the sub. Now, when Frank and Sun go back on the outrigger, now the dock is intact, and the Processing Center is dilapidated and boarded up, with signs and banners from the Dharma days still dangling around. A recruiting photo from 1977 is still hanging, from Christian to show to Sun. I would not surprised if one episode we hear the numbers, and they are "3 8 15 16 23 42."

Ben is surprised when hears Jin survived. Ben knows a lot about how things are supposed to play out -- he has a freaking runway built for the Ajira flight three years ahead of time -- but details are changing before his eyes and he is trying to cope to make sure things don't change so that Widmore wins control of the island.

My buddy and I had a discussion about the time travel and whether Sayeed did something that he was supposed to do, or if he somehow changed the future. My perspective is that Ben was always shot by Sayeed back in the 70's.

Then, the question on my mind is how he lives, or if he "dies" how he ages to the current point. Whatever they put out there I'm absolutely stoked to see it....what an awesome episode.

    Generally speaking about the episode...

I very much liked that Sayeed found his purpose, and once again I loved how they wove his backstory (including childhood) into it. I like that Kate was about to hint at her purpose/why she's back, and I look forward to everyone else's purpose on the island being revealed.

    God I love this show!

The directors said the numbers didn't really mean . They just threw them in there to keep diehards busy.

For instance how the numbers could be manipulated to be coordinates for both Nigeria & an island off New Zealand.

That's how great the writers are :bowdown

I don't think Ben is really dead because if he was dead then there would have been massive changes in the space time continuum immediately after young Ben was dead. Besides, the island has magical powers. It probably brought Ben back to life. I mean Locke was dead then he came back to life on the island. Richard might also have seen dead young Ben and brought him back to life. I'm not sure about that guy. He's probably the most mysterious character on Lost. It's a shame that there hasn't been a Richard centric episode.

I'm pretty certain we're going to see a Richard-centric episode. I mean, if Rose and Bernard got one, you'd think an important supporting character like RA would receive one as well. He's played a pivotal role in certain events, and he's shrouded in more mystery than any other character that I can think of. 'Cept Jacob.

I wonder if a Richard centric episode would give any info and history on Jacob. I bet it would because Richard and Jacob must be friends or at least know each other. Have you ever thought about the idea of Richard being immortal?

I don't get a lot of the 'Alpert is immortal' talk. It seems to be everywhere nowadays.
Especially on a show that allows traveling through time, why wouldn't the same thing be said about Sawyer, Jack, or Kate. If you saw them in the 70's looking the same age as you saw them in 2004, wouldn't you think they were immortal?
Also, he could be dead/ghost (ala Christian Shepherd, Claire(?)) that the island brought back to life. Or, with the god-mimicking science experiments going on the island, he could be a clone (ala the twins on the boat that took Walt).

Has anyone watched The Pretender? I'm working my way through the discs, and in season one, there is an episode where he's a test pilot trying to solve a crash that killed a pilot. At the end of the episode, he can't go back to the landing strip because, of course, Miss Parker and Sydney are already there, so he lands in an aircraft bone yard (they exist in AZ, both military and civilian). He climbs down from his F-16, and gets on a bike to ride away into the sunset. He bikes right past a big ol' 747, with the word Oceanic painted on the side. I literally yelled out loud, and hit the scan back button on the remote to see if I saw what I thought I saw. It was true. Oh, and The Prentender debuted in 1996, apparently an important year in the Lost timeline.

My theory is that Jarod, Miss Parker (in a hot mini skirt, smoking a cigarette) and Sydney (in a tweed suit, even though The Island is currently in the tropics) will arrive in a Zodiac power raft to save the day for everyone on The Island.

IF that was the real Ben. I was shocked as to see Sayid shoot him. This episode disappointed me a little, all we saw was what happened to Sayid getting seduced by that chick who ended up arresting him.

Yea, getting annoyed with the Kate/Sawyer thing. I'm still betting that Juliet ends up pregnant.

He's Our YOU.....the le of the episode. Dharma's version of Sayid.
the way they were setting it up as a Sayid-like torture session, it ended up being a pretty lame torture by "hi, I'm Larry, this is my brother Daryl, this is my other brother Daryl"

I know most may have figured it out, I also just frigging realized who Ben's dad is: Uncle Rico
