Ok, so here I am. Just smoked a nice bowl and feeling insightful. New user on the forum but I have been reading threads the last two seasons.

So the Spurs vs the Clipps tonight. Should be an easy "W" on any night in our house. And it is. Just like we wanted and that allows you to think about more important things in terms of the season instead of this specific game. So this is what I stuck on.

Duncan
Gooden
Mason
Ginobili
Parker.

Think of each of these players by themselves. Understand what each individual is capable of on any particular night. Remember all the individual accomplishments all have had. Now picture them all on the floor at the same time...... What team has 5 that match up well against these? Seriously, can any team play these five straight up? Easy answer is No. So theres the next question. Who do you double off of? You can never pick the right guy to come off of when you want to double another. Its just too easy for anyone to get the shot they desire. We got to see how great this team is now. Yes its the lowly Clippers in town but thats not whats important. Look how well the chemistry was tonight. Now realize how much better this chemistry will be with these 5 getting more minutes with eachother every game. Spurs dont face any more injury problems this year, and this thread will be bookmarked and resurfaced at the right time with a reaction of.... "Whoa..... I got to start smoking more weed! That will make you smarter than Socrates. I know the Effing future man."

This could only work in limited minutes and I'll tell you why...
There is only 1 basketball. It's hard enough to get it in the right players hands when the big 3 are in the game. Situationally though, this could work.
Practically every team that has tried to go with a 5 team superstar lineup has failed miserably. I finally started to watch pro hoops intently during the Dr. J's first year in the NBA as a Sixer.

This was their lineup:
Doc at SF
George McGinnis at PF
Caldwell Jones and Darryl"Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins at Center
Henry Bibby at PG
Doug Collins at SG
They had Joe "Jelly Bean" Bryant, Lloyd AKA World B. Free, Harvey Catchings, and Steve Mix as their bench guys. Gene Shue was the coach and from an offensive standpoint that team could score with anybody...but here is the ISH...what happens when you stop scoring? It's like Pop says, you can't always have a good shooting game but you can ALWAYS play defense. Will Gooden and Mason be able to play that championship level D when needed? Have they EVER shown that they are capable of doing so?
That is why on a Pop team, there are defined roles for everybody. And players accept that because they know, that doing so, gives the team the best chance to win.

That Sixer team lost to the Blazers led by Bill Walton and Maurice Lucas, but who ever heard of guys like Bobby Gross or Dave Twardzik? Why Portland won that championship is simply defined as this...CHEMISTRY.

I got called away for the 3rd quarter but for the game, did those 5 play together at all? For some situational sets, I could see Pop going with it, but I can't see that being a full time thing.

Chemistry is huge, and asking for Gooden and Mason to develop it with The Big Three, with 2 of them coming back from injuries will not make it easy. But having said that, I still feel that the team has enough, provided they are HEALTHY, to come back and SHOCK THE WORLD.

I thinking you are hitting it too hard if you can call Gooden a solid go to guy yet. The potential is there, but honestly what made him look good tonight was Manu.

Someone said it earlier. Manu is the missing piece of our 2nd set rotational players(and everything else for that matter). Parker obviously is the one who sets the tone on offense when he is out there, but when he goes to the bench we had no one who could take charge. Manu comes back and all the sudden everything seems to fit in place.

By TP and Manu just stepping on the floor they make everyone else better. Period.

The consumption of Weed is legal in Germany. The holding of marijuhana is something different.
