It would be better if fouls just weren't called when someone flopped. I'm not a big NCAA fan, but that's one thing college has a leg-up on the pros on.
I thought they were gonna start a new rule to start fining players for flopping? NBA is starting to look like the WWE with all the fake ass falls & injuries going downIt would be 10 times more enjoyable to watch if players knew they would be getting fined for doing that stupid

So the refs automatically know, in a split second of time to make a decision and without the benefit of replay, as to whether or not a flop is a flop?
College has a leg up because the majority will never play an NBA minute - they blow. These same blowhards' attempts at flopping are obvious. At the NBA level, flopping is much more subtle and is actually the product of refs not getting calls right.

...
The NBA should just make charging fouls so rare that players don't try them. A shot blocker taking a charge from a guard is becoming far too common.
A ref can reverse a call on a flop after the fact and doesn't need a split-second to make the determination.
Does it really matter what they end up doing if they are just going to flip flop later?
you're a fool. A flop is a faked and/or exaggerated action due to drawn contact. How do the refs know how much contact is faked and how much isn't? That's the entire nature of a flop - to make the refs think more contact occurred.
Nice comparing apples to oranges there, genius.

You're the one who seems to think the refs are too stupid to make any calls.
It's impossible for a human to tell how far the act has gone when a flop is pulled off well.
What's the point? We know the league is biased, so certain players would still get away with it and others would end up getting fined for genuinely being knocked on their ass.
for all intents and purposes, it then ceases to be a flop
I'm so sick of all this flopping talk. Seriously, everyone needs to realize that it's part of the game and every ing team in the league does it. Flopping is just another way to gain an advantage on your opponent. Just like stealing signs in baseball, or leaning into a 70 MPH curve ball so you can be awarded 1st base, when it's easier to just move out of the way, or a DB in football tugging on the WR's jersey to slow him down a bit, or two WR's running a cross pattern to intentionally pick off one of the DB's. , offensive lineman hold on EVERY ING PLAY. It happens in every sport. Flopping in basketball is exaggeration of contact to gain an advantage over your opponent. Deal with it.
So you can't tell when Ginobili, Kirilenko, Fisher, etc. are flopping?
Utah and New Orleans fans get no say in this.
It's definitely a part of Utah basketball. Thank you to the trailblazing pussies like Karl Malone.
i don't know but i see Chris Fall do it just about 3 times a game![]()
Thats how one of your "Certain" players makes his living.
The day that the NBA's precious baby Chris Paul decided flopping would be his best move, the NBA decided not to fine for it.
in this tough economy i think the players association wouldnt want 3 million in salary due to flopping. i know paul makes a lot of money but losing 3 million in fines(thats how much he would pile up) would suck
there's a good portion of the time contact is over exaggerated. players go tumbling from a fairly soft hit and the ref has very little chance of correctly deciding whether to blow the whistle or not - and which team the whistle belongs when he does decide to.
There's some reasons for flopping fines. it has little-nothing to do with the NBA's 'image,' and everything to do with making life easier on the referees who are taking heat because of all the flopping.
if the refs could discern how much contact occurred, they would not call the flops. Since they often do reward players who flop instead, there's a pretty strong case against "just don't call them." The refs are unable, the NBA game is too quick.
