He will do alot better once he has Lebron and Wade.
Simple question.
Do you think D'Antoni did a good job with the Knicks this year?
Do you compare him to Isiah? Or do you just simply determine if he did a good job or not?
A few things to consider. Two seasons ago, Isiah led the Knicks to 33 wins. Last year the Knicks only won 23 games. But also consider that while Stephon Marbury was a cancer, he also missed 58 games last year. And, the Knicks had very little point guard depth, especially when you consider Nate Robinson isn't really a point guard except for his size.
Now don't get me wrong. Isiah still did a horrible job coaching the Knicks. But as bad as he did, he got the Knicks 33 wins two years ago. And, this year's Knicks team looks to probably be around the same number of wins, maybe 33-36 wins. And, D'Antoni hasn't dealt with as much locker room problems since Donnie Walsh got ride of a lot of those players that were causing trouble and the Knicks have had stability at the point guard position.
So, if you're a Knicks fan or ownership, are you happy with the job D'Antoni has done this year? Or are you just happy Isiah is out?
He will do alot better once he has Lebron and Wade.
I think this year was more of a house clearing season. I will judge him more on 2009-2010. To answer your question though yes I think he did.
As much as it pains me to admit it..yes..he did a great job.
About as good as you could do with that roster.
It's not so much about wins and loses in NY at the moment.
At least knicks games are watchable now.
I couldn't have said that last year.
Yeah he did a good job, but he's still a way overrated coach.
They're not going to make the playoffs, and I don't think their roster is all that inferior to Charlotte's or Chicago's. That week in which they were torched in back-to-back games by Kobe and LeBron is a black mark on their franchise. They may be more entertaining, but the name of the game is winning, and they haven't done a whole lot of that this season.
I don't think he's done that great of a job.
I really don't think burning your starters out and being an extremely forgiving coach who all the players love so they buy into your system when the previous coach didn't even have a system is being THAT great a coach, IMO all we know is D'antoni > Isiah Thomas.
This is probably the best way to assess it. Even if NY were to get Lebron, they'll never win a le w/ D'antoni.
great job, who knew duhon could average close to 8 assists a game. find big men that can contribute not trash like curry rotting in the bench
Let's see..........did he cut out the cancer of that team?
Then a simple "yes" is all you need to say, as in.. YES HE DID A GOOD JOB.
I don't care if he never wins another game as their head coach the guy got rid of the root of the problem.
Disagreed, I think D'Antoni is a really good coach, and one of the brightest offensively-minded coaches around. Paired with a good defensive assistant and a better roster, and he could go far in the playoffs. He took the Suns to two WCF's and they were very mediocre defensively.
They have no star players. Neither do they have a real center. David Lee is not a center.
Considering the roster I think he did a very good job.
I think considering the disfunctional piece of full-of-talent squad he has, he's done quite well, but they'll NEVER win anything EVER.
I disagree with this.
Chicago's roster is stacked, and VDN is a horrible coach.
I think once they get the talent, the knicks will be the team to beat. If they get Lebron, it's game over for the east. I'd love to see nash there, but when I think about it, he and lebron probably couldn't coexist since each require the ball in their hands 80% of the time. I think the grand plan for NY is to create showtime in the east.
If you need a good assistant to coach defense cause you suck at it so much, you're a horrible coach. Also, his regular season offense was brilliant. His post season offense left something to be desired. Having the best 7 players run around like chickens with their heads chopped off for 40 minutes a game only goes so far.
Good coaches can coach defense and develop a bench. He's still way better than Gentry or Porter but he's still overrated, he developed a great regular season gimmick but didn't do in the playoffs.
If he preached defense and used his bench the team could have won a le either one of those years. He took the Suns to two WCF's and they were very mediocre defensively.
I think the plan is to provide entertainment via D'antoni for another year, and then bring in a real coach more concerned with winning a le than having fun.
Yes, he did a brilliant job. The Knicks had no bussines on being a 30 wins ballclub, considering the kind of personell they put on the floor.
D'Antoni "sucks at defence"? His Suns teams, always filled with sieves, were average defensive teams - not good, but very far from bad. What to say about Terry Porter then, than turned them into an horrible defensive squad?
watching them almost come back against the Jazz last night, I kept forgetting they were the Knicks and kept thinking I was watching the Bulls anyhow, there's so many ex-Chicagoans on that team (esp with Chandler, Wilson having played for DePaul in Chicago and Chandler, Tyson a former Bull, you needed to be pretty sober to keep it all straight)
who knows, maybe they'll get it together for next year....
ROFL
and what, exactly, do you think Chicago's roster is stacked with?
