I was just watching the Mavs-Wolves game and one of the commentators talked about how a first round exit and Kidd leaving in the summer could trigger a KG-type situation, whereby Mavs decide to rebuild and trade their star for young guns and picks.

What would be good value for the Mavs? Would they go for a package centered around Aldridge (plus picks plus one or two from Rudy, Sergio, Pryzbilla and Bayless).? Would that be good for the Blazers? What other teams can offer suitable packages? Warriors? Bulls?

in all honesty Dirk has had a great career and he's a great player but if he's here next year then i cant watch them anymore. it's been clear to me that Dirk would be a great second option. the fact that he just settles for jumpshots all the time unsettles me. he had a chance for a layup against Cleveland and instead tried a bank shot and bricked it. he can't lead this team singlehandedly to where they wanna go, he's not that good anymore (not sure if he ever was)

That has-been is a better player than anyone on the rockets.

Also, I think he should fake an injury so the Mavs can get some lotto balls.

Not sure if he ever was? Did you not watch 2006 when Dirk guided us to a championship until the refs decided he was too white?

keep telling yourself that---Dirk's best is behind him clearly. I would not trade Scola or Landry for Dirk.

Why would the blazers trade Aldridge for a Has-Been?

Watching the Blazers I can't help but feel that they need a second big-time scorer and I'm not sure that Aldridge can do that consistently. The Blazers can win now if they add another star player, assuming Oden develops and satys healthy.

Nowitzki can play at a good level for 3 years. His numbers are great even in a year that he seems so unmotivated. Maybe he is indeed slowing down as some suggest, but even so I doubt Aldridge can ever be as good as Nowitzki will be in the next two years. They could win a championship with Roy as a leader. Maybe that's the situation that he needs.

Again, would/should the Blazers and Mavs do it? What other options are there for them?

This is a tough spot for the Mavs if Kidd walks. I don't think we can blow it up. It's ing stupid to when the Nets have our pick (ugh), and I'm pretty sure it's not protected by the lottery (can someone confirm?). What's the point of having a ty year if you don't get high draft pick talent out of it?

I'd try to shop Dampier/Stackhouse/Howard and try one last run (said that last year ) and then blow it up.

OR you can have a fire sale at the 2009-2010 trade deadline if the teams barely hovering above .500 and prevent the Nets from collecting a high draft pick.

It really made no sense to have the 2008 pick protected by the lottery and the 2010 pick unprotected.

Quite frankly I'd rather go 41-41 w/ Dirk next year than 26-56 (assuming Dirk was traded) and watch the nets collect a top 5 draft pick.

What's up with all the bashing and hating on Dirk?

David Stern - 2006 NBA Finals MVP and he was the MVP of the 2007 2nd round series between the Spurs and Suns.
